Reporting to the Director of Corporate Finance, the Corporate Finance Analyst will have primary responsibility for completing financial analysis and maintaining the corporate financial model which is used to support short and long-term strategic planning efforts. As a result of Northland’s rapid growth, having a consolidated view of the future is increasingly important. The role supports the Corporate Finance, Treasury, FP&A and Investor Relations groups with reporting and analysis on a quarterly, annual and ad-hoc basis. The role requires developing and enhancing processes and procedures to increase efficiency and minimize risk.
Maintain and improve the functionality of Northland’s corporate financial model according to best modeling practices and adapt when required to perform sensitivities.
Maintain documentation of model inputs and model versions to ensure appropriate audit trails.
Assist in certain aspects of the financial reporting, forecasting, treasury and the close process, including preparing material for management and the Board of Directors and assisting in developing/monitoring Northland’s financial guidance in investor presentations and public disclosures.
Develop an understanding of the power industry and Northland’s peer group in order to assist in developing relevant benchmarks and analyses.
Assist the Treasury and Corporate Finance team with analyses and preparation of materials related to capital raises.
Assist in maintaining the relationships with corporate credit rating agencies and support the annual review process and ad-hoc requirements.
Support the Growth (Development & M&A) teams with corporate-specific analyses and metrics to assist with project evaluations.
Proactively identify opportunities and key drivers to improve Northland’s long-term outlook.
Support the senior finance team by providing thoughtful and comprehensive analyses that assist in strategic decision making.
Assist in internal corporate reporting requirements and special projects as required.
Preferred Experience / Education
The following indicates specific academic and functional experience/qualifications that are important to the successful achievement of the identified responsibilities and performance deliverables.
2-3 years of experience in creating and maintaining financial models preferably with a background in power and renewables, or infrastructure.
Business Undergraduate degree (Economics or Finance) or related field, with exceptional academic results.
Strong understanding of power industry and capital markets.
CFA, CPA, or other advanced designations considered an asset.
Strong understanding of applied investment and valuation methodologies.
Strong quantitative aptitude with an extremely high level of attention to detail.
Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel and experience with financial modeling.
Solid understanding of economic, accounting, and basic tax concepts.
Excels in a team environment.
Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
Ability to interact with a diverse set of internal and external stakeholders and counterparties.
Ability to handle multiple projects and adjust work hours as required to meet deadlines.
Experience in accounting with knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) considered an asset.
