Speedline Tree Service is a growing, family-owned and operated tree-care company based in Barrie, Ontario. We provide professional tree services throughout Barrie and the surrounding communities.

We are looking for a hardworking and motivated Groundsman / Tree Care Labourer to join our team on weekends. This is a primarily ground-based position supporting our climbing arborist and crew with day-to-day tree-care operations.
The ideal candidate is someone who takes pride in their work, follows instructions, works safely, is open-minded about learning new skills, and is interested in developing a long-term career within the tree-care industry.
Position Details
- Position: Groundsman / Tree Care Labourer
- Employment: Part-time, with potential for full-time opportunities
- Hours: Approximately 10–20 hours per week
- Schedule: Saturdays and Sundays
- Start Date: Immediately
- Pay: $25.00–$30.00 per hour, based on experience and qualifications
- Location: Barrie and surrounding communities
- Position Type: Seasonal
- Work Setting: Primarily outdoors and ground-based
Key Responsibilities
As a Groundsman, you will assist the climbing arborist and crew with a variety of ground operations, including:
- Maintaining a clean, organized, and safe job site
- Dragging and handling branches and brush
- Loading and unloading equipment and materials
- Heavy lifting and handling logs, branches, and firewood
- Raking, blowing, and completing final job-site cleanup
- Assisting with tree removals and pruning operations
- Performing basic ground-level pruning when directed
- Operating a chainsaw for ground-based work
- Operating a pole saw
- Assisting with rope and rigging setup
- Maintaining ropes, equipment, and tools
- Performing basic equipment maintenance
- Fueling and preparing equipment for use
- Assisting the climbing arborist with ground operations
- Interacting professionally with customers when required
- Safely operating vehicles when required
- Following all company safety procedures and instructions
What We're Looking For
We are looking for someone who is:
- Hardworking and dependable
- Punctual and committed to showing up for scheduled shifts
- Physically capable of performing demanding outdoor work
- Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Able to repeatedly lift and handle 50+ lbs
- Comfortable working around chainsaws, ropes, and other tree-care equipment
- Safety-conscious and willing to follow instructions
- Open-minded and willing to learn
- Interested in developing their skills within the tree-care industry
- Able to work independently when required while also working effectively as part of a small crew
- Professional and respectful toward customers, coworkers, and property
Experience
Approximately one year of relevant experience is preferred but not required.
Experience in any of the following would be considered an asset:
- Tree care or arboriculture
- Groundsman work
- Tree climbing
- Landscaping
- General labour
- Outdoor labour
Previous tree-climbing or groundsman experience is an asset, but we are willing to consider individuals who demonstrate the right work ethic, attitude, and willingness to learn.
Required Qualifications
- Previous chainsaw experience is required
- Valid Ontario driver's licence
- Reliable personal transportation to job sites
- Ability to work Saturdays and Sundays
- Ability to perform physically demanding work
- Ability to safely lift and handle 50+ lbs
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
Trailer towing and backing experience is considered an asset.
