The Media Manager Canada is responsible for providing support for Canadian communications efforts and pitching media, with an expanded focus on earned media coverage in local markets. The Media Manager Canada works with the U.S./Canada Communications Director to execute ONE’s media strategy in Canada. The Media Manager will be an experienced communications professional with a demonstrated interest in development issues and the ability to communicate complex issues concisely. They will use their creative intelligence to help us increase the media’s coverage of international development, influencing policy change through the media. Experience of working with development journalists within the Canadian media and existing contacts in this field would be a distinct advantage. This is a critical role within the Communications team, reporting to the Canada Director.


Manage media campaigns and coordinate with other team members and departments, including Government Relations, Policy, Field and Digital programs
Support the Canada Director by creating a strategy to strengthen his role as national spokesperson for ONE in Canada
Assist with the development of strategic communications plans for projects in Canada, and with the coordination of global communications projects
Generate effective media strategies for ONE to earn news coverage for news stories and shape news coverage through press releases, blog posts, letters to the editor, op-eds, talking points and other messaging materials, as needed
Develop and manage media lists, including journalists, reporters, media organizations, reporters/editors in national and local media markets Develop expert knowledge of ONE policies, campaigns and evolving political environment at the national and state levels
Post news releases and relevant content to the ONE website
Track and monitor media coverage of ONE and its issue
Develop relationships with, and devise media strategies for, local ONE staff and members
Strategically manages messaging and content for online and social media platforms i.e. Twitter, Facebook etc.
Perform other duties as assigned

Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Political Science, Public Relations or related field
Four years of communications experience, preferably within a PR agency, policymaker or political organization, non-profit organization, newsroom, or similar environment
Proven track record in pitching securing earned news coverage in mainstream media outlets
Strong, established relationships with journalists, especially in Canada
Ability to work effectively, independently and in a team environment
Willingness and ability to travel and work a flexible schedule
Strong knowledge of, and interest in, Canadian politics, foreign affairs and/or global development
Ability to consistently apply good judgment and make good and responsible decisions
Ability to maintain the highest degree of confidentiality regarding all aspects of work at all times
Bilingual skills (French) considered an asset

Fluency in English required. Fluency in other languages highly preferred such as French is highly desired.
