The Ossington Men's Withdrawal Management Centre provides withdrawal support to men, 16 years and older who are in an acute state of intoxication or withdrawal from alcohol or other substances and whose condition can be safely managed in a non-medical residential setting. The Centre provides assessment, referral, group and individual counseling and support.

As a member of the Detoxification Unit, the principal responsibilities of the DETOXIFICATION ATTENDANT include: screening and assessing clients for suitability for admission; processes client admission, as per policy; monitoring and attending to the physical, emotional and spiritual needs/condition of clients, ensuring concerns are addressed, in a timely fashion; formulating and implementing discharge plans with clients, including referring clients to appropriate treatment programs; performing and supervising clients participating in, general unit/household duties; performing assigned clerical duties; performing cross-functional duties as assigned and/or required; performing other duties consistent with the job classification, as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

At minimum, completion of a post secondary diploma up to 2 years in Human Services or Addiction Studies Diploma or recognized equivalent
Completion of Detoxification Orientation Program (Addiction Research Foundation) at time of hire (or within a mutually agreed upon timeframe)
Standard First Aide certification
Basic Rescuer Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (C.P.R.) certification
Current certification, or in the process of receiving certification, from a recognized addiction counseling program (i.e. Certified Alcohol and Drug Addiction Counselor) an asset
6 months to less than 1 year practical and related experience and/or 9 months to less than 1 year on the job training
Addiction Intervention Association membership an asset
Ability to deal with situations of extreme or bizarre behavior in a crisis unit
Ability to deal effectively and efficiently handle emergency and crisis situations
Ability to interact with clients in an empathetic manner
Ability to perform responsibilities in a courteous manner
Basic knowledge of substance abuse treatment and/or rehabilitation resources
Very good interpersonal and human relations skills
Knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and other relevant legislation.
Knowledge of applicable Hospital and departmental policies, procedures, guidelines, protocols and practices.
Basic knowledge of substance abuse treatment and/or rehabilitation resources
Ability to perform duties in a professional and courteous manner and produce high quality work while meeting deadlines in accordance to UHN standards
Exercise initiative and good judgment with ability to multi-task
Compliance with confidentiality requirements under UHN Privacy Policy
Effective organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
Knowledge of applicable legislative (i.e. Occupational Health & Safety Act), UHN and/or departmental policies
Client service oriented, with the ability to effectively work with diversity and appreciate that people with different opinions, backgrounds and characteristics bring richness to the challenge or situation at hand
Ability to meet the physical demands of the job including: ability to lift up to 5kg
May be required to work at multiple areas as well as rotating shifts in emergency situations
