Summary
The Diesel Technician specializes in maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing diesel-powered equipment used in excavation projects, such as excavators, bulldozers, loaders, and trucks. They ensure optimal performance, minimize downtime, and maintain compliance with safety and environmental standards. They report to the Shop Manager and will execute these tasks to the highest quality standards in a professional, responsible, and timely manner, while contributing to positive morale, and customer satisfaction. They must possess a positive attitude with other team members and portray a professional business image by using matching work clothes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (other duties may also be assigned)
These are the most prominent functions, responsibilities, and aspects of the job:
1. Equipment Maintenance and Repairs:
· Perform routine inspections and scheduled maintenance on diesel engines and related components.
· Diagnose issues in diesel systems and repair or replace engines, transmissions, turbochargers, and other critical parts as examples.
2. Diagnostic Testing:
· Use advanced diagnostic tools/software to identify mechanical/electronic issues.
· Conduct performance tests to ensure repairs meet operational standards.
3. Field Service Support:
· Travel to job sites to perform on-site repairs and emergency maintenance.
· Collaborate with Site Supervisors and Machine operators to understand equipment issues and usage conditions.
4. Documentation and Reporting:
· Maintain detailed service logs for all maintenance and repair activities.
· Track parts usage and inventory. Provide a detailed list of parts up front as much as possible and discuss with those who order the parts.
· Provide reports on equipment performance and suggest improvements or replacements.
5. Safety and Compliance:
· Adhere to all safety protocols outlined in SiteDocs.
· Ensure compliance with local and federal regulations.
6. Collaboration and Communication:
· Work closely with Shop Manager to ensure all equipment is operational.
· Provide recommendations on equipment upgrades or modifications for improved performance.
7. Housekeeping:
· Always provide a clean and safe work space for yourselves and others.
· Always put things away and paperwork is completed before starting the next job.

· Proficient with basic numerical equations and is comfortable with complex calculations. Also, reasonably efficient when using numerical data in decision making and requires little assistance in processing charts and graphs.

Working Conditions
· Full-time position, 50 hours per week (or longer) based on business needs.
· May involve extended hours, including weekends or on-call availability for emergency repairs (but not typical).
· Primarily in the repair shop, with occasional on site service calls.
· Exposure to noise, dust, grease, and heavy machinery.
· Ability to work in outdoor environments and varying weather conditions.
· Physical stamina to lift heavy tools and parts (50 lbs).
· Capability to work in tight spaces and on elevated surfaces as needed.

· High school: Graduation diploma or general education degree (GED) (vocational training in heavy equipment mechanics is preferred).
· College / Trades: Heavy Equipment Mechanic or similar qualification.

Pay: $20.00-$40.00 per hour
