About Cheelcare
Cheelcare is a growing Canadian manufacturer of innovative mobility products that improve independence and quality of life for wheelchair users. We design, manufacture and support complex mobility products from our facility in Markham, Ontario, serving customers and partners across Canada, the United States and international markets.
As Cheelcare continues to grow, we are looking for an experienced Production Manager to lead the next stage of development of our manufacturing. This is an opportunity to build.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the CEO, the Production Manager will take ownership of the manufacturing chain from customer demand through production and fulfillment.
You will lead production, inventory, warehouse, fulfillment, logistics and customer support operations while working closely with Engineering, Quality, Finance, Purchasing, Sales and Marketing.
This is a hands-on position within our organization. We are looking for someone equally comfortable developing operational effectiveness, reviewing performance data, leading production staff, improving processes, and walking onto the production floor to understand why something is not working.
Your mandate: Build an operational organization that is predictable, accountable, scalable and capable of supporting Cheelcare’s continued growth.
What You’ll Lead
Production & Operational Planning
- Lead production planning, scheduling and day-to-day manufacturing operations.
- Align production priorities with customer demand, inventory availability and business requirements.
- Develop visibility into capacity, labour requirements, bottlenecks and production performance.
- Standardize processes and improve productivity, throughput and consistency.
- Ensure employees have the materials, tools, documentation and information required to execute effectively.
Inventory & Warehouse
- Own operational inventory accuracy and material control.
- Establish disciplined receiving, put-away, transfer, picking, staging and production-consumption processes.
- Implement effective cycle counting and inventory reconciliation.
- Investigate discrepancies and eliminate root causes.
- Improve warehouse organization and material flow to support efficient production.
Fulfillment & Logistics
- Own the operational process from released customer order through shipment.
- Ensure product quality expectations are exceeded at all stages of manufacturing.
- Ensure orders are built, documented, packed and shipped accurately and on time.
- Establish visibility into open orders, backorders and delayed shipments.
- Oversee domestic and international logistics, freight and shipping processes.
- Improve shipping accuracy, documentation, cost and service levels.
Systems & Continuous Improvement
- Ensure inventory, work orders, builds, transfers, shipments and serial numbers accurately reflect physical operations.
- Build useful reporting and KPIs.
- Document and improve critical processes; eliminate unnecessary manual work, duplicate data entry and recurring failures.
- Help establish systems capable of supporting significantly greater volume without proportional increases in complexity or headcount.
What Success Looks Like
- Production knows what needs to be built and when, and materials are available when needed.
- Inventory records can be trusted and Purchasing receives reliable forward-looking material requirements.
- Customer orders move predictably from order to shipment.
- The Company has reliable data to make decisions.
- Processes are documented and consistently followed.
- The company can grow without relying on heroic interventions to keep things moving.
Ultimately, Cheelcare should be able to make commitments to customers and confidently know that Manufacturing can deliver them.
Who We’re Looking For
We are looking for a builder, not simply someone to maintain an existing operation. You are comfortable entering a growing organization, understanding how things work today, identifying what needs to change and then leading that change.
You know how to introduce structure without unnecessary bureaucracy. You are hands-on enough to understand the details but disciplined enough to build a team that does not depend on you personally solving every problem.
Qualifications
- Minimum 10 years of experience within a production leadership role.
- Significant progressive manufacturing leadership experience.
- Experience leading multiple functions such as production, inventory, warehousing, fulfillment and logistics.
- Strong understanding of production planning and material requirements.
- Experience implementing or significantly improving systems and processes.
- Demonstrated success building processes, controls and operational KPIs.
- Knowledge of Toyota Production System or Lean manufacturing processes is considered an asset.
- Strong analytical, organizational, project-management and problem-solving skills.
- Experience leading and developing teams with excellent cross-functional communication.
- High level of ownership, judgment and attention to detail.
Experience in medical-device or regulated manufacturing, ISO 13485, Lean/continuous improvement, freight/customs, or scaling a growing manufacturer would be particularly valuable.
Why Cheelcare?
This role offers something increasingly difficult to find in senior manufacturing positions: the opportunity to genuinely build.
You won’t be stepping into a mature operation and simply maintaining somebody else’s systems. You’ll have the opportunity to influence how Cheelcare plans production, manages inventory, fulfills orders, supports customers, uses technology, measures performance and ultimately scales its operations.
