The Knowledge Mobilization Specialist will work closely with senior management, Canadian Institutes of Health Research Institute of Aging (CIHR-IA) staff and stakeholders to design and implement a knowledge mobilization strategy for the CIHR-IA. The Knowledge Mobilization Specialist will identify knowledge needs and synthesize evidence-based research findings into compelling, professionally written reports and other knowledge-sharing products that can be used and delivered through a variety of communications channels (paper-based, multi-media) for government agencies, researchers, media, policy-makers and the public.
The Knowledge Mobilization Specialist will also play an important role in supporting the development, coordination and implementation of strategic CIHR IA activities as well as knowledge translation and mobilization strategies that will facilitate the dissemination and uptake of research findings in order to increase awareness and advance the mission of the institute. They are the primary point of contact regarding knowledge mobilization for all CIHR-IA activities and actions.
Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree in a research-related field (e.g. health sciences, social sciences, communication, public relations, politics, government, public administration, social policy, business studies or management)
Professional Qualifications and Licenses:
- Knowledge Mobilization/Translation Certificate and training completed or in progress
- Professional certification in knowledge translation would be an asset.
Preferred:
- Master's degree in a research-related field with preference on the field of health sciences, social sciences, communication, public relations, politics, government, public administration, social policy, business studies or management
b. Experience
Minimum Required:
- Minimum 5 years of relevant, related experience in a role related to knowledge mobilization or communications
- Experience developing knowledge products such as infographics, toolkits, newsletters, factsheets and report summaries
- Previous experience with Tri-Council (SSHRC, NSERC, and/or CIHR) funding agencies programs, with a focus on requirements, challenges, and opportunities for knowledge mobilization
Preferred:
- Knowledge Mobilization experience in the university research environment
- A combination of education and experience may be considered.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Attributes
Familiarity with online communication delivery platforms.- Proficiency in French would be an asset but is not a requirement.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail is essential.
- High level of proficiency in writing, editing, and proofreading a variety of documents such as reports, presentations, briefing notes, web content, newsletters and speeches aimed at various audiences.
- Able to identify and interpret key results from health-related research and to translate/summarize research findings into plain language for varied audiences.
- Experience producing a variety of communication materials aimed at various audiences.
- Able to operate within a complex, multi-faceted work environment and be a strong team player.
- Ability to function effectively in team situations both within and across departments and other organizations to achieve optimal collective results.

- Capable of adjusting work schedules to meet multiple demands and pressures.
- Ability to evaluate issues, recognize potential problems and take action to proactively resolve issues
- Ability to work under pressure.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
