Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Education Assistant to support classroom teachers and enhance student learning experiences. This role involves working closely with children in various educational settings, including special education environments, to foster academic growth and social development. The ideal candidate will have a passion for working with children, strong communication skills, and relevant experience in early childhood education or related fields. The Education Assistant plays a vital role in creating an inclusive and engaging learning environment for students of diverse needs.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
- Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Coldwater School approved policies, standards, and procedures, and as directed by the Principal or designate.
- Maintains confidentiality on all matters relating to the affairs of the Coldwater School.
- Collaborates with Teachers on strategies and accommodations that support student learning.
- Assists in preparing the classroom and other School facilities for student learning and activities.
- Assists in the supervision of students within and outside the classroom, including group field trips.
- Works individually with students in the classroom as assigned and under the guidance of the Teacher, including reading to students, listening to the reading of students, assisting students with assignments and reinforcement of overall Teacher expectations of students, and assisting with/language goals with the students.
- Assists in preparing materials to support student learning and ability as assigned and under the guidance of the teacher.
- Participates, as required or directed, and as a team member in periodic meetings with Teachers, students and parents/guardians to plan and revise educational programs and activities.
Qualifications
- Grade 12, and
- Certification from a recognized Teacher/Education Assistant Program
- Completion of relevant formal Post-Secondary Educational Training Programs/courses
- Valid and current First Aid Certification (Level 1)
- Special Needs formal training is an asset
Experience
- Minimum of one (1) year experience as an Education/Teaching Assistant
- Prefer Teaching Assistant experience with First Nations Schools
- Experience working with language / Cultural Programs
- Experience teaching the nle?kepmxcin language to students is an asset
