The St. John Council for Alberta has a proud history of service, dating back to its founding in 1897. Officially registered as a charitable organization in 1996 under the name St. John Ambulance Alberta , it continues to be a cornerstone of safety and community care across the province. Today, St. John Alberta operates seven Training and Community Service Centres, supported by a dedicated team of 40 employees and 500 volunteers who contribute over 28,000 hours of community service annually. In addition, a network of 300 certified instructors who deliver lifesaving training to more than 70,000 Albertans each year—strengthening resilience and preparedness in communities across Alberta.
The AFA Implementation Coordinator will lead the provincial rollout of the updated SJA National Advanced First Aid (AFA) program, ensuring alignment with Alberta Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) requirements, CSA Z1210:24 standards, and organizational training objectives.
This role is responsible for development of quality assurance systems, instructor training and engagement, and implementation across Alberta training centres. The position will also establish sustainable systems, documentation, and processes to ensure long-term program consistency and success.
Develop the Advanced First Aid (AFA) Instructor Workshop curriculum, learning materials, and support resources.
Deliver Advanced First Aid (AFA) instructor workshops, courses, webinars, and other assigned learning activities in classroom, virtual, and blended learning environments.
Adapt instructional methods to accommodate diverse audiences and learning styles while fostering an engaging and inclusive learning environment.
Provide coaching, mentorship, and developmental support to instructors to enhance instructional effectiveness and program delivery.
Conduct needs analyses to identify instructor and learner skill gaps and implement development initiatives to address identified needs.
Conduct quality assurance reviews of instructional delivery, instructor performance, and training programs, and implement improvements based on evaluations, assessments, performance metrics, and participant feedback.
Assist the Manager of Training with course evaluations, program reviews, continuous improvement initiatives, and the identification and escalation of instructor concerns as appropriate.
Cross-reference the SJA National Advanced First Aid program with Alberta OHS requirements and other applicable standards to ensure compliance.
Evaluate training equipment and resource requirements and provide recommendations, updates, and depreciation reports as required.
Evaluate, implement, and support the effective use of learning technologies, instructional systems, and training tools.
Comply with all organizational health, safety, and regulatory requirements, and identify, report, and address hazards, incidents, and unsafe conditions.
Participate in health and safety initiatives and committees as required.
Ensure training activities are conducted safely and maintain a safe learning environment for all participants.
Support training operations through classroom setup, training material preparation, resource coordination, and equipment management.
Contribute to special projects and perform additional duties as assigned.
Maintain professionalism in appearance, communication, conduct, and interactions with learners, instructors, customers, volunteers, and colleagues.
Represent the organization in a positive and professional manner and comply with all organizational policies, agreements, codes of conduct, and ethical standards.
