1 ‑ Full Time (.8) ‑ Social Worker BSW

Assertive Community Treatment

The Social Worker participates as a multidisciplinary team member providing assertive community treatment to

clients with severe and persistent mental illness. The Social Worker provides client‑centred treatment, rehabilitation

and support using social work skills and knowledge, community liaison and coordination activities, as well as

consultation and educational services.

EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:
  • extensive knowledge of the theories involving normal/abnormal social interactions and the dynamics of individual
adults and families, the conditions which contribute to dysfunction and the necessary corrective measures;

  • demonstrated ability to apply knowledge of family systems theory; proven interview, psychosocial, diagnostic and
treatment skills;

  • knowledge of counselling methods and techniques to provide individual, group and family therapy;
  • working knowledge of psychotropic medications;
  • demonstrated knowledge of social work theory to provide therapeutic services through the development,
implementation and evaluation of service plans;

  • demonstrated knowledge of mental illness and interventions relevant to the client population served (i.e. assertive
community treatment case management practices, psychosocial rehabilitation principles, counselling and crisis

intervention);

  • knowledge of relevant mental health legislation and regulations;
  • familiarity with community resource/service organizations;
  • knowledge of research techniques to participate in research and program evaluation projects;
  • demonstrated analytical, evaluative and interpretive skills to assess and successfully resolve both emergency and
long‑term issues/situations;

  • demonstrated ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team environment;
  • presentation and negotiation skills;
  • demonstrated analytical and reasoning skills to review community services, to identify gaps and recommend
options to compensate, or to determine ways to expand or improve services and promote cooperation/agreement

with service providers in implementing new/enhanced services;
