We are seeking an experienced Health and Safety Manager to lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of health and safety systems for the assigned facility and supporting operations as required. This role ensures a proactive safety culture, regulatory compliance, and effective risk management while supporting operational excellence in a food processing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Key Responsibilities Lead the development, implementation, and maintenance of health, safety, and security programs and systems
- Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, provincial, and municipal health and safety legislation, as well as internal policies and standards
- Promote a strong safety culture through leadership, employee engagement, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Oversee disability management, WCB claims, and return-to-work programs, ensuring timely and effective case management
- Develop and manage the annual Health & Safety budget, including operating and capital expenditures
- Provide leadership and support to the Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC)
- Conduct incident investigations, identify root causes, and implement corrective and preventive actions
- Monitor, analyze, and report key health and safety performance metrics to leadership
- Develop and deliver safety communications and training to support awareness and compliance
- Act as liaison with regulatory agencies during inspections, audits, and site visits
- Lead and support workplace security and loss prevention initiatives
- Coach and develop direct reports to support performance and accountability
- Support continuous improvement initiatives aligned with operational excellence and safety performance
- Perform other related duties as required
Qualifications & Skills
- 5–10 years of progressive experience in health and safety leadership within a manufacturing or food processing environment
- Post-secondary education in Occupational Health and Safety or related discipline
- Professional certification in occupational health and safety (e.g., CRSP or equivalent) considered an asset
- Strong knowledge of applicable legislation, WCB processes, and regulatory compliance requirements
- Experience with continuous improvement methodologies considered an asset
- Strong leadership, coaching, and influencing skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
