We are looking for a HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment) Coordinator to join our growing HSE department that shares our energy and passion in building a company committed to transparent, honest, and simple construction services. Reporting to the HSE Manager, the HSE Coordinator will be responsible to assist with the development, implementation, and maintenance of York Construction’s health and safety policies and procedures in compliance with applicable legislation and industry standards & best practices.
Job Responsibilities:
1. Site Safety Oversight:
- Conduct regular on-site inspections to identify and address potential health and safety hazards.
- Collaborate with site supervisors to ensure that safety protocols and procedures are followed diligently.
2. Safety Training and Orientation:
- Facilitate on-site safety training sessions and orientations for new employees, subcontractors, and visitors.
- Ensure that all workers are equipped with the necessary knowledge and tools to maintain a safe work environment.
3. Incident Response and Investigation:
- Respond promptly to on-site incidents, accidents, and near misses, conducting thorough investigations.
- Implement corrective actions and provide recommendations to prevent the recurrence of incidents.
4. Emergency Preparedness on Site:
- Develop and implement on-site emergency response plans and procedures.
- Conduct regular emergency drills to assess the effectiveness of response measures.
5. Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of on-site safety-related activities, including training, inspections, and incidents.
- Prepare and submit comprehensive reports to the HSE Manager as required.
6. On-Site Safety Culture Promotion:
- Actively engage with on-site personnel to promote a positive safety culture.
- Recognize and reward individuals and teams for exemplary safety practices.
7. Regulatory Compliance at the Site Level:
- Stay informed about local, provincial, and federal health and safety regulations applicable to construction sites.
- Ensure on-site compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
What you bring to York:
- National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) required.
- Post-secondary education in HSE field an asset.
- Minimum of 5 years HSE experience
- Certified COR Auditor with Alberta Construction Safety Association an asset
- Valid Driver's License and Clean Driver’s Abstract
- Ability to forge, grow and maintain positive relationships with multiple groups
- Ability to remain objective and maintain a factual perspective when dealing with questions and inquiries
- Sense of urgency and able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and meet the time demands of unpredictable activities, capable of handling pressure and challenges in a dynamic business environment
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, troubleshooting, problem-solving skills, and a high degree of accuracy with attention to detail
