Position Summary
The Ready Mix Shop Manager is responsible for the overall leadership, safety, scheduling, productivity, and performance of the maintenance department. This role oversees the maintenance and repair of the company's fleet of ready-mix concrete trucks, boom pumps, and support equipment. The Shop Manager ensures that preventive maintenance programs, inspections, repairs, and servicing are completed efficiently while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, and equipment reliability.
The Shop Manager is responsible for supervising shop technicians, coordinating daily workloads, managing maintenance schedules, and ensuring equipment availability to support operational requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership & Supervision
- Lead, supervise, mentor, and develop shop technicians and support staff.
- Assign daily work and monitor technician productivity and efficiency.
- Conduct regular performance reviews and provide coaching and corrective action when required.
- Foster a positive, accountable, and team-oriented work environment.
- Ensure technicians maintain high standards of workmanship and professionalism.
Fleet Maintenance & Repairs:
Oversee maintenance and repairs of:
- Ready-mix concrete trucks
- Concrete boom pumps
- Service trucks
- Shop equipment and support assets
- Ensure all repairs are completed accurately and efficiently.
- Coordinate diagnosis and repair of mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic systems.
- Ensure equipment is maintained in accordance with manufacturer recommendations and company standards.
Preventive Maintenance Program:
- Manage and schedule all preventive maintenance services.
- Ensure GNI inspections and services are completed on schedule.
- Track maintenance intervals and service requirements.
- Minimize equipment downtime through proactive planning.
- Monitor service compliance and maintain accurate maintenance records.
- Scheduling & Resource Management
- Develop and manage daily and weekly shop schedules.
- Prioritize repairs based on operational requirements.
- Coordinate equipment availability with Operations, Dispatch, and Management.
- Schedule overtime and after-hours repairs when necessary.
- Ensure adequate staffing levels to meet maintenance demands.
Safety & Compliance
- Promote and enforce all company safety policies and procedures.
- Lead shop safety meetings and toolbox talks.
- Ensure compliance with Occupational Health & Safety regulations.
- Conduct regular shop inspections and hazard assessments.
- Investigate incidents, near misses, and equipment failures.
- Ensure proper use of PPE and safe work practices.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop environment.
Inventory & Cost Control
- Monitor parts inventory and shop supplies.
- Coordinate parts ordering and vendor relationships.
- Control maintenance costs while maintaining equipment reliability.
- Review repair costs and identify opportunities for savings.
- Assist with annual maintenance budgeting.
Planning & Communication
- Communicate regularly with Operations regarding fleet readiness.
- Provide equipment status updates and repair timelines.
- Participate in management and planning meetings.
- Assist in fleet replacement and capital equipment planning.
- Support emergency breakdown response and recovery efforts.
Pay: $37.00-$42.00 per hour
