Position Summary
The Recreation Therapist (RT) is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of therapeutic recreation interventions within BIAPR Day Programs.
The RT works collaboratively with other RTs, Day Program Coordinators, Case Managers and Day Programs Supervisor to ensure consistent, high-quality service delivery, particularly for individuals presenting with complex emotional or behavioural needs.
This position plays a critical role in supporting client engagement, emotional regulation, and overall quality of life through individualized and group therapeutic programming.
Primary Responsibilities
Assessment & Intervention Planning
- Conduct assessments.
- Develop individualized intervention plans aligned with client strengths, interests, and goals.
- Establish measurable outcomes and review plans regularly.
- Adjust approaches based on client progress and evolving needs.
Program Delivery
- Facilitate individual and group therapeutic recreation interventions.
- Adapt programming to accommodate cognitive, emotional, behavioural, and physical needs.
- Promote autonomy, participation, and meaningful engagement.
- Support clients in achieving increased independence and skill development.
- Plan and cook lunches on rotation with other staff.
- Engage clients in day program activities.
Collaboration & Complex Support Integration
- Work collaboratively with the Day Program Coordinator when emotional dysregulation, behavioural challenges, or psychosocial stressors impact program participation.
- Participate in coordinated planning discussions for clients requiring both therapeutic recreation and supportive counselling approaches alongside case managers.
- Integrate stabilization strategies into therapeutic planning where appropriate.
- Support client re-engagement in programming following emotional or behavioural disruptions.
Documentation & Evaluation
- Maintain timely, accurate, and professional documentation.
- Monitor client progress toward established goals.
- Participate in program evaluation and quality improvement initiatives.
Authority & Accountability
The Recreation Therapist:
- Holds responsibility for therapeutic recreation services.
- Participates in collaborative decision-making regarding complex client support.
- Implements program-level adjustments following consultation where required.
Qualifications
- Degree or Diploma in Therapeutic Recreation, Social Service Worker, or other related post secondary education.
- Registered or eligible for registration with Therapeutic Recreation Ontario (TRO) an asset.
- Minimum 2–3 years experience working with individuals living with acquired brain injury, mental health challenges, addictions, or other complex needs.
- Strong assessment and documentation skills.
- Experience facilitating group-based programming.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed, person-centred practice.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a layered leadership structure.
- Valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation (if required).
- Satisfactory Police Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening.

Pay: $25.00-$26.00 per hour
