OVERALL PURPOSE
The Support Shops Technician (Electrical Shop) is responsible for completing a variety of maintenance tasks on electrical equipment to support the electrical and electronic repair for the vehicle systems and vehicle electrical sub-systems, which includes the troubleshooting, repair, modification, overhaul and testing of applicable parts.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Works within procedures defined by the Company and follows approved technical methods in the maintenance, repair, overhaul, in-depth troubleshooting and testing of electrical and electronic equipment. Some innovation will be necessary, but requires approval of the Support Shops Supervisor.
Works under the direction of the Support Shops Supervisor or Vehicle Supervisor, as assigned, to repair or overhaul electrical equipment from Vehicle or Wayside systems in the Support Shops, on board the vehicles or other locations as may be assigned.
Assists or supports line function as required.
Coordinates with various contractors and vendors in the repair, overhaul, modification, and maintenance of electrical equipment.
Interprets maintenance manuals, blueprints, schematic and drawings, and prepares drawings or schematics to communicate with others in performance of work.
Makes recommendations for hardware and procedural changes that become evident during performance of work duties.
Performs tests and provides reports as required.
Completes documentation and accounts for time and materials used in performance of the duties.
Completes assigned tasks to Company or industry standards using approved work practices and procedures.
Signs off work as completed to standard.
Operates SkyTrain vehicles and support vehicles as required.
Repairs, tests and operates shop equipment and machining tools.
Troubleshoots repairs and overhauls vehicle electrical system components as required.
Provides instruction and direction to junior staff, apprentices and/or servicepersons as required and assumes responsibility for work carried out under this direction.
Attends technical and safety training programs to continually upgrade skills.
Performs related duties as assigned, such being items of a minor nature which do not affect the value of the job.
SAFETY REQUIREMENTS
As per WorkSafeBC regulations, this job requires an annual fit test and may necessitate the use of a respirator. In either case, the employee must be clean shaven. Any exemption requests should be raised to Occupational Health and/or Labour Relations for consideration.
