About the Opportunity
A well-reputed, global software company in the Ottawa area is looking to add a Senior Database Engineer to their growing R&D group. As a recognized innovator in the customer engagement domain, this B2B SaaS company supports millions of transactions across North America, Europe, and APAC.
Reporting directly to the VP of R&D, you will own the design, optimization, reliability, and protection of database systems and the entire data tier across the Microsoft SQL Server platform. Operating within an Agile/Scrum framework, you’ll collaborate daily with members across the Product and Engineering teams to build resilient systems that power high-velocity release cycles.
While this software company has an office presence in the National Capital Region, they boast a fully-remote work model and welcome candidates across Ontario and Quebec.
Duties include but are not limited to:
Database Design & Architecture: Design, implement, and maintain scalable database solutions, including conceptual data models and instance configurations for SQL Server
Performance Optimization: Monitor, troubleshoot, and tune existing database systems to maximize real-time transactional performance
Security & Reliability: Define and implement robust security protocols, data backup strategies, and high-availability solutions
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with development teams to support new feature designs, future system capacity planning, and complex production deployments in distributed environments
About You
The successful candidate will have the following:
Deep SQL Server Expertise: 8+ years architecting and scaling SQL Server database systems optimize high-availability, real-time transactional performance
Production Environment Experience: 4+ years managing various DBMS (SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle DB, etc.) at scale in live, production environments
Problem-Solving Mindset: Exceptional debugging, performance tuning, and root-cause analysis skills
Agile Adaptability: Comfort navigating fast-paced product cycles and juggling shifting priorities seamlessly
An Ownership Mindset: You take pride in clean design, automated workflows, and building data platforms that just work
Technical Toolkit
Core Systems: Master-level understanding of relational database theory, transaction isolation levels, and data modeling
SQL Server: Advanced T-SQL mastery and deep knowledge of SQL Server internals
OS & Scripting: Strong experience with Windows Server and PowerShell scripting, alongside comfort in Linux environments
Nice-to-Haves: Hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure (GCP, AWS, Azure, etc.)
About the Job
Our client is offering a competitive salary ranging from $110,000 to $140,000 in addition to a generous vacation allotment and a comprehensive benefits package.
