POSITION SUMMARY:
We are seeking Health Care Aides to join our Pandemic Response Pool to support Joseph Brant Hospital and the Burlington Community as the Province continues its fight against the COVID-19 global pandemic, providing compassionate care and exemplary service-every time.

This is an exciting opportunity for students to work in the hospital environment with the aim to provide relevant on the job experience with patient care and develop professional relationships with the interdisciplinary team, patients and families. As a member of the health care team, the Health Care Aide assists with meeting patient care needs under the immediate supervision and direction of the registered staff. The Health Care Aide supports care needs within acute and post acute patient populations, across multiple clinical units.

The Health Care Aide will be assigned to a care team and assist with basic activities of daily living and/or observational care including but not limited to personal hygiene activities, feeding patients, comfort rounding and vital signs. The Health Care Aide will collaborate with the team to provide excellent patient-centred care.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Health Care Aide Certificate or students enrolled in the following programs: Paramedic, BScN, Practical Nursing, OTA/PTA, OT, PT, PSW, or medicine
  • Familiarity with computer applications or willingness to learn computer skills as required
  • Effective communication (verbal and written), interpersonal, teamwork skills within an interdisciplinary health care team
  • Excellent problem solving, conflict management and communication skills
  • Ability to perform verbal de-escalation strategies with patients and families
  • Demonstrated initiative and judgment appropriate for the position
  • Ability to accept assignment or delegated functions
  • Ability to set priorities and organize work accordingly
  • Ability to deal with various hospital departments effectively and collaboratively
  • Ability to lift using appropriate techniques and bend, push and pull using good body mechanics
  • A good attendance and work record is essential
