Job Summary
We are seeking a reliable and experienced Yard Operative to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing yard operations, including the safe handling and movement of heavy equipment and materials. This role requires a strong understanding of warehouse distribution, heavy equipment operation, and logistics processes. The Yard Operative will play a key role in ensuring efficient shipping, receiving, and inventory management within our facility.
Responsibilities
- Operate heavy equipment such as forklifts, load and unload materials
- Manage warehouse distribution activities, including order picking and inventory organization
- Assist with shipping and receiving processes to ensure timely dispatch and receipt of goods
- Load and unload materials safely using appropriate equipment and techniques
- Maintain accurate records using warehouse management systems (WMS)
- Conduct routine inspections of heavy equipment to ensure safety and proper functioning
- Support construction-related tasks as needed, utilizing construction experience when applicable
- Ensure the yard is organized, clean, and compliant with safety standards
- Collaborate with team members to optimize yard operations and improve workflow efficiency
Requirements
- Proven experience in warehouse operations, shipping & receiving, or construction environments
- Mechanical knowledge related to heavy equipment operation and maintenance
- Hands-on experience with order pickers, cranes, forklifts, clamp trucks, and other heavy machinery
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and efficiently
- Strong understanding of warehouse distribution processes and logistics management
- Prior experience in order picking, load & unload procedures, and warehouse organization is preferred
- Construction experience or background is a plus
- Ability to operate heavy equipment safely following all safety protocols
- Good physical stamina for prolonged periods of standing, lifting, and moving materials
