Position Overview:
The primary responsibility of the ‘Gate Keeper’ or ‘Order Checker’ is to check all vehicles (inbound and outbound) for accuracy matching to approved paperwork and to act as a deterrent to theft. As well, provide ‘Customer Service Excellence’ at all times.
Essential Functions:
- Acts as the first point and last point of contact with our customers.
- Verifies items in vehicles inbound prior to entering the yard.
- Checks customer sales slips against the products and quantity purchased by the customer.
- Provides directional assistance to customers for product location, product returns, etc.
- Adheres to safe work procedures and safety standards.
- May provide some customer service in the yard.
- Maintains a clean and tidy worksite.
- Other tasks as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- A knowledge of products sold by Country Lumber. i.e. Lumber, building materials, etc.
- Can identify the difference between the various species of wood: Fir, Spruce, etc.
- Knows construction materials: Rebar, Insulation, Flashing, Lumber, Cement, etc.
- Can follow written and verbal instructions.
- Effectively communicate information and ideas in writing; read and understand information presented in writing, and verbally communicate; all in the English language.
- Assemble, sort and/or distribute documents, supplies, and materials.
- Evaluate information against a set of standards.
- Must be flexible and adaptable to meet our ever-changing business needs.
Must have:
- Near and mid-range of motion from waist to above shoulder to reach product.
- Mid-range of motion below knee & be able to squat on one or both knees.
- Full range of motion of neck and back to be visually aware of equipment, trucks, workers, and customers.
- Be able to withstand repetitive neck, shoulder, elbow, wrist, and hand movements.
- Must be able to stand and walk on paved surfaces from 1 minute to an hour depending on volume of traffic.
- Ability to lift items weighing 3 lbs. up to 50 lbs. and walk up to 10 feet.
Working Conditions:
- Working in all weather conditions for more than an hour at a time. (Rain, snow, heat, wind).
- 8-hour Saturday shifts are required.
- Minimum of 8 hours a week, with the opportunity for more hours.
Job Types: Part-time, Casual
Pay: $22.00-$24.00 per hour
