Role Overview:
Reporting directly to the Manufacturing Manager, the CNC Machinist’s responsibility is to manufacture parts by programing, setting up and operating CNC machines and manual machines. Maintaining quality and safety standards keeping records; maintaining records and supplies.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plans machining by studying work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, orthographic drawings, reference planes, locations of surfaces, and machining parameters; interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T).
- Plans stock inventory by checking stock to determine amount available; anticipating needed stock
- Programs mills and lathes by entering instructions, including zero and reference points; setting tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches; calculating requirements, including basic math, geometry, and trigonometry; proving part programs.
- Sets-up mills by indicating vices, V Blocks & Angle Plates
- Verifies settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample workpieces, adhering to internal standards.
- Maintains specifications by observing drilling, grooving, and cutting, taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting and reprogramming controls; sharpening and replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.
- Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
- Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions;
- Maintains continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
- Documents actions by completing quality logs.
- Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications.
- Accomplishes organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
- Manufacture rush machine parts and assist assembly with machining capabilities.
- Reports to Manufacturing Manager and assist assembly when there are no manufacturing needs.
- Set up and run two machines as required.
- Perform process inspection and verify that work piece is acceptable for the next operation.
- Keep work area clean and organized.
- Assist apprentices as required.
- Cooperate with the Manufacturing manager and assigned leads.
- Advise Manufacturing manager of all blueprint discrepancies.
- Other duties as assigned.
Skills, Education & Competencies:
- 2-5 years of relevant experience. Machinist II required.
- CNC Programming Certification required.
- PowerMill, Fusion360 or MasterCAM experience preferred.
- Must be able to carry 50lbs.
- Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly on telephone.
- Must be available to work straight afternoon shift. (Monday to Thursday 4.15pm to 2.45am & Friday 3.00pm to 7.00pm)
