Role Summary :
Reporting to the Manager, the Registered Pharmacy Technician – RDL & Reimbursement Services is a hands‑on role responsible for providing pharmacy technician services at a Remote Dispensing Location (RDL) while actively supporting reimbursement processes for biologic and specialty medications.
The role combines regulated pharmacy duties with reimbursement coordination to support patient access, accurate dispensing, and compliant pharmacy operations.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Pharmacy Technician & RDL Operations
- Perform core Registered Pharmacy Technician duties at the assigned Remote Dispensing Location (RDL) in accordance with OCP standards and company policies.
- Support prescription processing, dispensing activities, order fulfillment, labelling, and documentation under the supervision of a pharmacist.
- Maintain accurate patient profiles, prescriptions, and dispensing records in the Kroll Pharmacy Management System.
- Assist with inventory management, including receiving, rotation, storage, and documentation of medications.
- Ensure compliance with PHIPA, pharmacy regulations, and internal SOPs.
- Participate in quality assurance activities, audits, and corrective actions as required.
Reimbursement & Patient Support
- Communicate with patients, prescribers, clinics, and healthcare professionals to support patients throughout their treatment journey.
- Verify and investigate insurance coverage, including eligibility, co‑payments, deductibles, and prior authorizations.
- Liaise with public and private insurers to determine coverage options and resolve reimbursement issues.
- Support Patient Support Programs (PSPs) and biologic/specialty medication access.
- Provide patient education in accordance with approved protocols, as assigned.
- Stay current with changes in reimbursement policies and payer requirements and escalate issues as needed.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Registered Pharmacy Technician (RPhT) in good standing with the Ontario College of Pharmacists (OCP) is required.
- Diploma in Pharmacy Technician or a related healthcare field is required.
- Minimum two (2) years of experience in pharmacy operations, including dispensing support, documentation, and inventory management.
- Minimum two (2) years of reimbursement navigation experience involving public and/or private payers is preferred.
- Hands‑on experience with the Kroll Pharmacy Management System is required.
- Knowledge of special authorization processes, patient support programs, and reimbursement for specialty/biologic medications is an asset.
- Strong understanding of PHIPA, pharmacy regulations, and professional practice standards.
- Strong organizational, time‑management, and multitasking skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a healthcare environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and comfort working in a paperless environment.
- High level of professional integrity, attention to detail, and commitment to patient‑centred care.
