Position Purpose

The incumbent provides expertise in support of strengthening equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) matters related to Research. Delivers expert advice and guidance, develops and implements strategic policies, practices and action plans to ensure that the Vice-President, Research meets equity and diversity obligations, and that EDI initiatives support and enable the pursuit of excellence in research.
Plays a critical role in ensuring compliance, in promoting a culture of diversity and inclusion and guiding efforts to conceptualize and assess implementation of EDI-related policies in the uOttawa research enterprise.

Essential Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in education, public relations/administration, human resources, social/community work, sociology/social sciences, psychology, law and legal studies or equivalent experience.
Master’s Degree (preferred) in same or related fields. Postgraduate degree in equality and diversity, race and ethnic relations and disability studies considered an asset.
7 years of work experience in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and work experience. Work experience at one of the tri-council funding agencies (i.e. CIHR, NSERC or SSHRC) is an asset.
Deep knowledge of equity, diversity and inclusion policies, federal and/or provincial legislations and best practices.
Demonstrated committed and proactive approach to EDI issues with a positive attitude towards legislative developments.
Experience in researching, writing and delivering strategic documentation and their supporting policies, practices and action plans.
Experience in developing innovative solutions including the development of proposals for policy and procedural development contributing to strategic planning.
Experience contributing to change management initiatives
Ability to liaise with various groups of administrators, senior management and stakeholders.
Ability to think strategically and innovatively, leading and motivating others on EDI-related issues.
Demonstrate collaborative approach and ability to work cooperatively and effectively to deliver EDI-related objectives.
Organizational and project-management skills.
Conflict-resolution skills and cultural sensitivity.
Excellent written and oral communication skills (French and English essential).

Note

Contract of approximately 36 months, with possibility of renewal. Eligibility to benefits will be determined upon hiring. This position is excluded from all union accreditation units.
