Under close supervision by the Recreational Therapist, the Therapy Aide supports the delivery of service to residents of Aspen House as directed by the Recreational Therapist. This involves assisting with planning, implementing, and evaluating therapeutic leisure education and recreation programs to maintain and improve the physical, mental, emotional, and social well-being of clients and residents. Key responsibilities and Duties: Initiates and fosters positive ongoing interaction with residents/clients. Assists in scheduling, planning, implementing and evaluating a variety of programs (entails lifting and bending). Completion of required statistical information and documentation. Communicates resident information and interests to the Recreation Therapist and other members of the Interdisciplinary team. Assists in porting residents to and from activities. Provision of personal care if needed (i.e., during outings). Actively participates in recreational therapy meetings and conferences. Assists in volunteer orientation and supervision. Responsible for maintenance and storage of all recreational therapy equipment and supplies. Assists in the development and distribution of publicly posted materials.
As a Therapy Aide, you will be working both independently and as part of the interdisciplinary team where you will contribute to the effective and efficient delivery of rehabilitation services. Your role may include administrative duties such as ordering supplies, booking clients, tracking attendances, equipment inventory and preparing/cleaning the treatment area. Under the direction of a supervising recreation therapist, physiotherapist, occupational therapist, audiologist, or speech language pathologist, you will prepare and/or apply routine interventions, promote patient (client, resident) healthy living, self-care independence and motivate clients to actively participate in assigned therapy protocols or programs. You may assist with client lifts and transfers, positioning, and basic activities of daily living (ADL) and instrumental activities of daily living (IADL) within the context of the therapy program.

Current basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS-HCP) certification is required.
Recognized Recreational Therapy Aide Program is preferred. Minimum two tears previous work experience in geriatrics and the field of therapeutic recreation would be beneficial. Valid driver’s license is preferred.
