Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced accountant to join our private oil and gas company. This is an accounting-focused position for a candidate with a strong background in full-cycle accounting, account reconciliations, month-end close and financial analysis. The successful candidate will focus primarily on maintaining accounting accuracy, resolving discrepancies, preparing reconciliations and supporting the overall accounting function.
Responsibilities
- Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable processes using accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, and PeopleSoft
- Perform account reconciliation and bank reconciliation to ensure accuracy of financial data
- Maintain detailed bookkeeping records and oversee general ledger entries
- Conduct account analysis and assist with budgeting activities for various projects
- Support auditing processes by preparing necessary documentation and reports
- Handle payroll processing efficiently while ensuring compliance with relevant regulations
- Assist in corporate finance activities including financial reporting, forecasting, and variance analysis
- Utilize accounting software to streamline financial operations and improve reporting accuracy
- Collaborate with team members to ensure timely completion of month-end and year-end closing procedures
Duties
- Support the full accounting cycle, including general ledger maintenance, journal entries, month-end close activities, financial reporting schedules and working papers.
- Prepare and review timely account reconciliations, including bank, balance sheet, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, intercompany, prepaid and accrual accounts.
- Review accounting transactions and supporting documentation for appropriate coding, completeness and accuracy; investigate and resolve discrepancies.
- Analyze general ledger accounts and financial information to identify issues.
- Assist with payroll reconciliations, applicable tax and regulatory filings, and requests from external accountants and auditors.
- Maintain reliable accounting records and support the development and improvement of accounting processes and internal controls.
- Collaborate with management to provide clear, accurate and timely financial information.
Requirements
- Demonstrated experience in full-cycle accounting, bookkeeping or a similar accounting role, including strong account reconciliation and month-end close experience.
- Post-secondary accounting education is preferred; a CPA designation or progress toward a designation is an asset.
- Strong Excel, analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills, with close attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize competing deadlines and communicate effectively with both financial and operational personnel.
- Oil and gas accounting experience is preferred but not required.
- Experience with JVNexus or comparable joint venture accounting software is preferred but not required.
- Familiarity with Canadian payroll, GST/HST and related reporting requirements is an asset.
Job Type: Part-time, possible it may grow into full time position.
Work Location: In person, downtown Calgary
Pay: $40.00-$70.00 per hour
