We are seeking an enthusiastic, organized, and community-minded Community Engagement Coordinator to join our growing team. Position Summary
The Community Engagement Coordinator supports VAD's community outreach, engagement, fundraising, partnerships, and program visibility across Alberta. This role plays a key part in strengthening relationships with individuals, community organizations, volunteers, donors, and partners while supporting initiatives such as Voice Connect and Voices Heard. Through outreach, communications, and engagement activities, this position helps advance VAD's mission of creating a more inclusive and accessible Alberta.
As the first point of connection for many community members and partners, the Community Engagement Coordinator will help foster meaningful relationships that increase awareness of VAD's programs, strengthen community partnerships, and advance disability inclusion across Alberta.
Key Responsibilities
Community Outreach & Engagement
- Build and maintain relationships with community organizations, partners, businesses, and stakeholders across Alberta.
- Promote VAD's programs and services through community outreach and engagement activities.
- Represent VAD at community events, meetings, networking opportunities, and information booths.
- Recruit participants for programs such as Voice Connect and Voices Heard.
- Assist with volunteer recruitment, coordination, and recognition.
Program Coordination
- Coordinate scheduling and logistics for Voice Connect, Voices Heard, and other community initiatives.
- Support virtual and in-person program delivery, ensuring an accessible and welcoming experience for participants.
- Coordinate interviews, storytelling sessions, and related program activities.
- Assist with content organization and accessible distribution across VAD platforms.
Communications & Content
- Develop and schedule engaging content for VAD's social media channels.
- Assist with newsletters, website updates, and community communications.
- Capture stories, photos, and participant experiences (with appropriate consent) that showcase VAD's impact.
- Monitor social media engagement and identify opportunities to increase community awareness.
Community Events & Partnerships
- Support the planning and delivery of fundraising events, community engagement activities, and organizational initiatives.
- Assist with event logistics, volunteer coordination, sponsorship recognition, and participant engagement.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with community partners, sponsors, and supporters.
- Identify opportunities to strengthen community partnerships and expand VAD's reach throughout Alberta.
Administrative Support
- Maintain accurate records related to outreach activities, volunteers, partnerships, and community engagement.
- Track participation and engagement data for reporting purposes.
- Support the Executive Director with community engagement initiatives and special projects.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QualificationsEducation
- Post-secondary education in communications, community development, social services, marketing, public relations, or a related field is considered an asset.
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience will also be considered.
Experience
The ideal candidate will have:
- Experience in community engagement, outreach, communications, program coordination, volunteer management, or a related field.
- Experience supporting events, volunteers, fundraising activities, or community initiatives.
- Experience creating content for social media and digital communications.
- Experience working with or alongside people with disabilities is considered an asset.
Skills & Abilities
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building abilities.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Zoom, Canva, and social media platforms.
- Ability to work independently while contributing positively within a collaborative team.
- Passion for accessibility, inclusion, and community engagement.
Other Requirements
- A valid Alberta driver's licence and access to reliable transportation are considered assets.
- Occasional travel within Alberta may be required.
Schedule
This is a part-time, six-month contract position, averaging approximately 15 hours per week.
Regular Schedule
Wednesday, Thursday & Friday
Working hours will typically be either:
- 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., or
- 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Each shift includes a 30-minute unpaid meal break.
The successful candidate will also support Voice Connect, VAD's virtual education and community program, on approximately two Wednesday evenings per month from 5:45 p.m. to 7:15 p.m.
Occasional evening or weekend work may be required to support community events, outreach activities, fundraising initiatives, and organizational priorities.
Compensation & Benefits
