Transfer Specialist (Funeral Home)
Overview
We are seeking a compassionate, professional, and dependable Transfer Specialist to join our funeral home team. This important role involves the dignified transfer of deceased individuals from residences, hospitals, long-term care facilities, hospices, and other locations to the funeral home. The ideal candidate will demonstrate empathy, discretion, attention to detail, and the ability to work professionally with families and healthcare personnel during sensitive and often emotional circumstances.
Duties
- Perform the safe, respectful, and dignified transfer of deceased individuals from various locations to the funeral home.
- Respond promptly to transfer calls, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts as required.
- Work closely with hospitals, care facilities, coroners, medical examiners, law enforcement agencies, and family members during transfers.
- Complete all required documentation accurately and in compliance with company policies, provincial regulations, and legal requirements.
- Operate funeral home vehicles safely and maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times.
- Utilize proper lifting techniques and transfer equipment, including stretchers, cots, and removal devices, to ensure safe handling.
- Conduct routine inspections and basic maintenance checks of vehicles and equipment, reporting any concerns promptly.
- Maintain cleanliness and readiness of transfer vehicles, equipment, and preparation areas.
- Communicate effectively with funeral directors and other team members regarding transfer details and special circumstances.
- Uphold strict confidentiality and treat all individuals, families, and personal information with respect and discretion.
Requirements
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to safely lift, move, and transfer deceased individuals, often in challenging environments such as residences, stairways, and healthcare facilities.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact compassionately with grieving families and professional staff.
- Professional appearance and demeanor, demonstrating sensitivity and respect at all times.
- Ability to remain calm and composed in emotionally challenging situations.
- Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to following established procedures and safety protocols.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Previous experience in funeral service, healthcare, emergency services, transportation, or a related field is considered an asset but is not required.
- Physical stamina to perform lifting, carrying, standing, and driving duties for extended periods.
