Heavy Equipment Operator
Job Type: Full-Time | Seasonal (Potential for Year-Round)
Job Summary
We are looking for a skilled and reliable Heavy Equipment Operator to join our team. The successful candidate will safely operate a variety of heavy equipment while completing earthmoving, excavation, grading, site preparation, material handling, and other construction projects. The ideal candidate takes pride in their work, maintains equipment responsibly, and works safely in a team environment.
Responsibilities
- Safely operate heavy equipment including excavators, dozers, loaders, skid steers, graders, compactors, rock trucks, and other equipment as required.
- Perform excavation, grading, backfilling, trenching, site preparation, and earthmoving activities.
- Load trucks and move materials efficiently while maintaining productivity.
- Read and follow site plans, grade stakes, and supervisor instructions.
- Complete daily pre-operational and post-operational equipment inspections.
- Perform basic equipment maintenance, including greasing, cleaning, fueling, and fluid checks.
- Identify and report equipment defects or mechanical concerns.
- Work safely around underground utilities, structures, and other personnel.
- Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
- Assist with general labour duties when required.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area and equipment.
Qualifications
- Previous experience operating heavy equipment in the construction industry.
- Strong understanding of safe operating procedures.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Physically capable of working outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Reliable, punctual, and safety-oriented.
- Valid Class 5 driver's licence required.
- Class 3 or Class 1 driver's licence is considered an asset.
Preferred Assets
- Experience operating multiple types of heavy equipment.
- Experience in road construction, excavation, utility work, or agricultural projects.
- First Aid/CPR certification.
- Safety training (Ground Disturbance, WHMIS, CSTS, etc.) is considered an asset.
