Women & Family Services Advocate – Full Time Continuing

At Artemis Huron, previously Huron Women’s Shelter, we use a gender-based analysis (GBA+), trauma and violence informed framework to deliver prevention, education, crisis support and healing programs to women and their families who have been impacted by gender-based violence (GBV) in rural Huron County. Our services include a 24-hour helpline and emergency shelter, risk assessment and safety planning, advocacy, system navigation, individual and group healing opportunities, and community development.
We are seeking a Women and Family Services Advocate (WFSA) to join our team. This role works within our Emergency Shelter Program located in Goderich, ON. This is a full-time continuing position averaging 35 hours per week.
Job Purpose
Reporting to the Residential Supervisor and working closely with the Artemis Huron direct service team, the WFSA is accountable for the day-to-day service within the Emergency Shelter Program and the 24-hour crisis and support line. The WFSA promotes safety, completes risk assessments, provides advocacy, resources and referrals, and develops and maintains therapeutic relationships to support a woman and her family residing in Shelter due to the impacts of GBV.
Using a feminist, trauma and violence informed framework, the WFSA supports women and their families in our Emergency Shelter Program navigate their next steps.
Duties and Responsibilities Include:
1. Provides therapeutic support to women and their families residing in our Emergency Shelter Program, ensuring each woman has an individualized Care Plan, risk assessment and safety plan. Provides crisis support for our 24-hour crisis and support line.
2. Develops and facilitates programming for clients residing in emergency shelter with a variety of focuses including learning about the impacts of GBV, life skills, parenting support, etc.
3. Acts as an advocate for those experiencing GBV in the community and with partner agencies. Works effectively and maintains strong relationships with community partners, supporting and advocating for and with clients.
4. Ensures proper administration of all program material, client documentation and records.

Location
The WFSA’s work within our Emergency Shelter Program located in Goderich, ON. Occasionally, and as needed, the WFSA may support a client off site.
Hours
The hours for this position are full-time, averaging 35 hours a week. This position follows a rotating shift model consisting of 10-hour shifts on a 3-4 schedule. WFSA’s work three 10-hour shifts one week, followed by four 10-hour shifts the next week, within a seven-day cycle. Shifts rotate between days and afternoon hours. This role requires availability for day, evening, weekend, and statutory holiday shifts.

· Demonstrates a strong feminist, GBA+, and trauma and violence informed analysis, approach, and practice
· Excellent conflict resolution skills; ability to facilitate difficult conversations
· Strong knowledge of community services and ability to communicate and collaborate
· Demonstrates advocacy skills and effective child/women-centered practice delivery
· Highly developed interpersonal and problem-solving skills
· Outstanding communications, listening and assessment skills
· Proficiency in use of computer office technology and applications
· Demonstrated organizational and coordination skills
· Ability to work independently as well as within a team with minimal supervision
Qualifications
· Minimum 2+ years social services experience. Specific experience in gender-based violence and/or residential settings are assets.
· Valid driver’s license; access to a reliable vehicle and proof of adequate insurance.
· Clean driver’s abstract; Clear current Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC).
· Valid CPR, First Aid (ASIST, CPI an asset).
· Fluency in other languages an asset.
