Does working with clients and regulators to design solutions that protect the aquatic environment appeal to you? Stantec’s Environmental Services team is seeking a Senior Aquatic Ecotoxicology Specialist with expertise in cross-discipline planning, environmental assessment, monitoring, and site closure.
As a senior practitioner, you will be an integral part of our Environmental Services team and will actively participate as an advisor and mentor with multi-disciplinary regional, national, and international teams to deliver what our clients need. You will apply your technical expertise to support mining projects, with particular focus on issues relating to selenium bioavailability and uptake.
As a leader and coach, you will apply your skills to address complex problems for major projects (e.g., mining, port development, pipelines).
As an effective communicator, you are passionate about making scientific information easily understood by decision-makers. You will provide practical and effective outcomes for clients, while making a positive contribution to our community.
Your Key Responsibilities
Use your skills, knowledge and expertise to act as a subject matter expert to mentor and lead our highly capable and motivated aquatic services team across Canada
Use your strong leadership skills, to build and maintain productive relationships across all stakeholder groups, including staff, clients, regulators
Design and implement studies to identify, mitigate, and prevent effects of industrial activities to complex aquatic environments, employing innovative ecological and statistical tools to provide scientifically defensible and practical, feasible solutions

Your Capabilities and Credentials
Recognized nationally with expertise in aquatic ecology, ecotoxicology, geochemistry, water quality and/or watershed planning
Experience designing and conducting aquatic fate and effects studies for metals and other parameters (e.g., hydrocarbons, dioxins and furans), including a fluent understanding of water quality modeling and software
Deep understanding of Canadian and provincial water and sediment quality guidelines, legislation and regulations
Experience providing technical support to environmental assessments/ impact statements and other regulatory applications
Experience with aquatic environment effects monitoring study designs, data interpretation, and reporting
Established reputation as an industry leader through publication of technical papers and presentations at conferences
Education and Experience
A minimum Master level degree in one of the environmental sciences (e.g., toxicology, biology, chemistry) or equivalent is required.
Professional registration is an asset (R.P.Bio., P.Ag., P.Geo. or P.Eng.)
Minimum of 15 years of experience, which must include relevant consulting experience.
Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather. Ability to lift and move items and equipment up to 50 lbs.
