We are looking for a dedicated Drop-By Supervisor to oversee our Drop-By Program and assist the Client Services Manager (CSM) with daily operations and leadership responsibilities. In addition to supporting program delivery, the Drop-By Supervisor will play a key role in building and maintaining positive relationships with the local community, particularly addressing neighbor concerns and ensuring that the Drop-By space remains a good neighbor in the Newmarket area.
This position requires a blend of operational oversight, client-centered support, and community engagement. You’ll be a crucial link in ensuring the program runs smoothly while fostering a positive environment both within the Drop-By space and in the surrounding neighborhood.
Key Responsibilities:
· Program Oversight & Coordination:
o Assist the Client Services Manager in overseeing the daily operations of the Drop-By program, ensuring an inclusive, safe, and welcoming environment.
o Supervise Drop-By team members, including staff, volunteers, and students, to deliver quality services to clients.
o Collaborate closely with community partners to ensure the effective delivery of services and resources to clients.
· Client Engagement & Support:
o Provide compassionate, non-judgmental support to individuals accessing the Drop-By space.
o Offer brief, solution-focused counseling to clients, connect them with relevant services, and facilitate harm reduction interventions.
o Ensure the provision of basic needs, such as food, clothing, personal care items, showers, and laundry access.
o De-escalate conflicts among clients, using a client-centered, trauma-informed approach.
· Community Relations & Neighborhood Engagement:
o Act as a liaison with the local community, addressing any concerns or complaints from neighbors related to the Drop-By program.
o Ensure that clients understand and respect the rules and expectations of the community space, fostering a positive relationship with neighbors.
o Respond to complaints promptly and professionally, working to resolve issues and maintain positive community engagement.
o Monitor the behavior of clients both within the Drop-By space and in the surrounding area, ensuring that the program is seen as a valuable resource rather than a disruption.
· Assisting the Client Services Manager:
o Step in for the Client Services Manager during their absence, overseeing day-to-day operations and addressing immediate challenges.
o Ensure all policies and procedures are followed, especially around community relations and maintaining a respectful atmosphere.
o Provide ongoing support to team members, ensuring they adhere to program guidelines, professional boundaries, and confidentiality.
· Administrative & Reporting Duties:
o Complete daily shift reports, document incidents, and provide feedback to senior management on program performance.
o Participate in regular Drop-By meetings, attend all-staff meetings, and provide input on ways to improve the program.
o Ensure that all required documentation is up to date and kept confidential.
Qualifications:
· Education & Experience:
o Diploma in Social Service Work or a related field of study.
o Previous experience working with homeless populations, individuals with mental health, addiction, or complex needs.
o Strong understanding of harm reduction principles and trauma-informed care.
· Skills & Abilities:
o Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage a team and work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, and community partners.
o Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and maintain positive relationships with clients, staff, and the local community.
o Conflict resolution and de-escalation skills, especially in situations involving challenging behaviors.
o Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively and work independently with minimal supervision.
· Certifications:
o Current Standard First Aid and CPR Level C Certification (or willingness to obtain prior to employment).
o WHMIS and Food Handler’s Certificate are assets.
o Clear Vulnerable Sector Screening (to be completed prior to employment).
Additional Requirements:
· Ability to manage neighbor relations effectively, acting as a positive representative of the Drop-By program within the community.
· Flexible and adaptable to changing environments, particularly in high-pressure situations.
· Willingness to be on-call or provide coverage for the Client Services Manager when necessary.
· Ability to work collaboratively with local agencies and community stakeholders to ensure the program’s success and sustainability.
