The Department of Biological Sciences, one of the largest departments on campus, is home to over 2200 Undergrad Students and 240 Graduate Students. The Department of Biological Sciences has recently implemented its 4 year Strategic Plan which highlights the following strategic priorities:

The Student Services Assistant (SSA) plays an essential role in being the initial point of contact for the Department's Student Services and the primary contact for undergraduate student registrations and student queries. Located in CW405 in the Biological Sciences Building, this regular continuing, operating funded position offers a comprehensive benefits package.

Duties:
Greets and directs all visitors to the Student Services Offices, a busy office which houses core coordinators (BIOL 107, BIOL 108, BIOL 207, and BIOL 208), graduate student offices, calendar and undergraduate program coordinator, and Associate Chairs for the Undergraduate and Graduate portfolios
Completes the registration and addresses enrollment questions / concerns for Biological Science undergraduate students and directs Biological Science graduate students in their inquiries
Facilitates administration of 4 Honors and 4 Specialization programs in Biological Sciences
Provides administrative support for 6 undergraduate research courses in Biological Sciences (BIOL 299, 398, 399, 490, 498, and 499) currently, with potential for additions to this offering
Provides administrative support to Biological Science field courses that are offered outside of Edmonton
Provides administrative support for undergraduate student awards
Liaise with and maintain information from Biological Sciences Undergraduate student associations
Provides administrative support to instructors, advisors, and lab coordinators in Biological Sciences
Qualifications

Minimum of a High school diploma; undergraduate degree preferred; familiarity with Faculty of Science programs deemed a definite asset
Minimum 2 years related student service experience, preferably in a post secondary learning institution, with direct experience relating to fielding and directing undergraduate student registration queries, campus resources, calendar and curriculum, add/drop deadlines, course prerequisites, University of Alberta policies and procedures relating to student registrations and program requirements
Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
Ability to prioritize time sensitive tasks and meet deadlines
Attention to detail
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Knowledge of various software programs including Google Mail and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) is necessary, ideally experience with PeopleSoft, FileMaker would be advantageous
