Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and hands-on Civil Construction Manager (CCM) to oversee the grading, excavation, and site preparation for single family subdivision and townhome sites.
The successful candidate will act as the technical lead on-site, ensuring that all earthworks are completed to civil engineering specifications while maintaining strict safety standards and managing the daily logistics of operators and equipment.
Key Responsibilities1. Technical Site Management & Grading
- Grade Control: Oversee all cutting and filling operations to ensure compliance with the civil engineered drawings and subdivision plan.
- Surveying Coordination: Work closely with the project surveyor to maintain accurate benchmarks, lot lines, and invert elevations.
- Soil & Drainage: Manage on-site soil conditions, including the implementation of Erosion and Sediment Control (ESC) measures as required by the Municipality.
- Quality Assurance: Conduct regular inspections of sub-grades and compaction levels before moving to subsequent development phases.
2. Crew & Operator Leadership
- Personnel Management: Directly supervise a team of heavy equipment operators and site laborers.
- Shift Planning: Schedule daily tasks for operators to ensure maximum productivity and minimize machine downtime.
- Coaching: Provide technical guidance to operators on specific grading techniques or site-specific challenges (e.g., slope stabilization).
3. Equipment & Logistics
- Fleet Management: Manage the logistics of a rented fleet (Excavators, Dozers, Rock Trucks, etc.).
- Maintenance Oversight: Coordinate regular daily inspections and maintenance for rented machinery to avoid "lost time" and damage penalties.
- Fuel & Supply Coordination: Ensure timely delivery of fuel, grease, and other consumables to keep the site operational.
4. Safety & Compliance
- Site Safety: Serve as the designated Site Safety Coordinator, conducting daily tool-box talks and ensuring all WorkSafeBC regulations are strictly followed.
- Bylaw Liaison: Ensure the site remains in compliance with municipal permits and noise/dust bylaws.
Required Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum 10+ years in civil construction, with at least 5 years in a supervisory or management role specifically within residential subdivision development.
- Technical Proficiency: Ability to read and interpret complex civil engineering blueprints, topographical maps, and site plans.
- Local Knowledge: Strong understanding of the Lower Mainland’s soil conditions and District of Mission’s development standards.
- Certification: Current First Aid Level 1 (minimum) and a valid BC Driver’s License.
- Equipment Knowledge: Expert-level understanding of heavy machinery capabilities (CAT, John Deere, Komatsu) and production rates.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with GPS Grade Control systems (e.g., Topcon or Trimble).
Physical & Environmental Requirements
- This is a field-based role requiring the ability to navigate active, uneven construction terrain in all weather conditions.
- Must be available for early morning starts to coordinate the arrival of machinery and crews.
Pay: $74,401.58-$148,667.81 per year
