Job Summary
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for carrying out preventative maintenance and repair duties throughout the hotel to ensure the safety, comfort, and satisfaction of guests while maintaining compliance with brand standards and local regulatory requirements.
This position requires a physically active individual who is comfortable performing manual labor, working in varying environments, and responding to maintenance needs throughout the property.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Repair or replace items including, but not limited to, light bulbs, lamps, switches, outlets, faucets, toilets, hardware, filters, paint, furniture, wall coverings, caulking, grouting, and other miscellaneous items.
- Work collaboratively with other departments in the systematic implementation of the preventative maintenance program through written and verbal communication.
- Maintain accurate records of repairs completed and areas requiring further attention.
- Complete preventative maintenance documentation in accordance with IHG brand standards.
- Maintain inventory levels of supplies required to perform job duties.
- Report major repairs and items that cannot be repaired to the appropriate supervisor for further action. Communicate with the Front Office when rooms need to be placed out of order.
- Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned by management.
- Inspect guest rooms, public areas, and back-of-house spaces to identify maintenance needs, touch-ups, repairs, or replacements.
- Ensure exterior parking lots and driveways are free of debris and safety hazards, including snow and ice.
- Monitor pool temperature and chemical levels. Pool Operator Certification is required.
- Maintain and troubleshoot HVAC and PTAC units.
- Operate the hotel shuttle for airport guest pick-ups and drop-offs as required.
Qualifications and Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required; trade school, vocational certification, or related education is considered an asset.
- Minimum of 1-2 years of maintenance experience required.
- Working knowledge of general building maintenance and engineering practices.
- Experience in a hotel, hospitality, or restaurant maintenance environment is considered an asset.
- Basic knowledge of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and mechanical systems.
- Strong work ethic and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Basic computer and mobile application skills.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Strong verbal and written English communication skills.
- Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence with a clean driving record.
- Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and climb for extended periods of time.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 lbs (23 kg) safely and repeatedly throughout a shift.
- Ability to climb ladders and work at heights when performing maintenance and repair tasks.
- Comfortable working indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions, including heat, cold, snow, and rain.
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks such as shoveling snow, clearing ice, moving furniture, and handling maintenance equipment.
- Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment safely and effectively.
- Must have sufficient visual and auditory ability to identify maintenance issues and respond to emergencies.
- Ability to respond to maintenance calls and emergencies in a timely manner.

Additional Requirements
- Must be able to reliably commute to Calgary, AB, or relocate before the start date.
Education
- Secondary school diploma or equivalent preferred.
