Reporting to the Vice President, Student Experience, the Manager, Employment & Career Services provides broad management and administration for employment programs in Peterborough and Haliburton and Career Services at all College campuses and is responsible for the development, marketing and implementation of new programs and services. The Manager will ensure alignment of service delivery and best practices across both departments. A key component of this role will be managing change effectively.
The Manager has overall accountability for achieving performance objectives outlined by the Ministry of Labour, Training, and Skills Development or the designated Service System Manager (SSM) for the Muskoka-Kawartha region. They will have overall accountability for the redesign of existing programs and services in response to or in anticipation of changing community, labour market and government needs within an environment of atypical funding mechanisms.
Administration of daily operations will entail managing staff, program budgets, liaising with agency partners as well as provincial and federal government officials. The Manager is also accountable for needs assessment, strategic & program planning, development, delivery and ongoing review of the programs to ensure that these services are relevant to the community needs and contribute to the core promise and strategic plan of the College.
The Manager is also accountable for overall strategic and directional planning processes of Career Services and the facilitation of development and implementation of new service offerings and delivery channels. The Manager will be responsible for setting annual goals and objectives and will ensure plans align with directions in student services, the academic areas and with corporate goals and objectives. They must create an environment that promotes continuous improvement and excellence in the delivery of services to students.
The Manager will develop/refine and facilitate the implementation of programs, services, best practices and partnerships to deliver effective Career Services that prepares our students for today’s workforce, including student and graduate employment, experiential learning opportunities, etc. They will continually assess new trends and technology as it emerges and consider applications in each area of responsibility.

What We Are Looking For:
As our ideal candidate, you will have a relevant 4 year degree in Business Administration, Social Services, Adult Education, Career Services or related discipline. To compliment your formal education, you will have at least 5 years of related experience that includes:
Program budget management, financial analysis and forecasting
Proposal development and proven entrepreneurial management skills
Strategic planning and organizational skills to meet deadlines
Team building, communication, decision making, conflict resolution and leadership skills
Staff supervision, preferably in a unionized, multi-site environment
Comprehensive knowledge of employment/community services and education programs, and skills in human resource management
In addition, you can demonstrate that you have:
Comprehensive knowledge of financial systems, accounting principles and budget development
Negotiation and conflict resolution skills
Computer literacy and capability with software packages
An understanding of Adult Education Principles
Consulting and career counselling skills
Ability to embrace diversity and inclusion and easily adapt in a challenging environment where a diversity of people, situations and issues are encountered.
