Shifts Available:
- Awake Night Shift: 10:00 p.m. - 9:00 a.m.
- Weekend Shift: Saturday and Sunday
As a Child and Youth Care Worker, you will play a pivotal role in providing direct care, support, and guidance to children and youth within a residential setting. Your commitment to creating a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment will contribute to the overall well-being and development of the individuals we support.
The successful candidate must be willing and available to do shift work including, afternoon shifts, weekend shifts and awake overnight shifts. They must have a valid driver license and must be willing to drive.
Reporting to the Team Lead, some of the responsibilities of the Child and Youth Care workers includes:
- Supervising and supporting children and youth in a residential setting by
- assisting the children and youth in overcoming barriers, and supporting them to develop positive and healthy relationships with their families and communities.
- Activity planning that involves children and youth to meet the educational. recreational, or therapeutic needs.
- Counseling skills that utilize problem-solving, de-escalation, goal-setting and preventative interventions with clients in either a 1:1 or group scenario
- Supporting children and youth through life skills teaching and in-the-moment learning, with a hands-on approach.
- Documentation of daily activities, themes of the children and youth.
- Completing and submitting monthly documentation related to clients including service planning, reviews, plans, etc. with established time-frames
- Overseeing service plans for the children or youth.
- Day-to-day service delivery components including, but not limited to, medication administration, client orientation, scheduling of wellness-related appointments, transportation (if qualified).
- Care of the program environment and clients by performing basic housekeeping duties including cleaning, meal preparation, grocery shopping, etc.
- Work collaboratively with other team members.
- Providing all clients with a sense of safety, acceptance and nurturance
- Drive residents to appointments and outings
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements:
Education/ Certification/ Training
- Human services degree or diploma (and/or competency-based equivalencies);
- Minimum of 1 year related experience working directly with children and youth in a group home setting
- 3-5 years related front-line experience is considered an asset
- Standard First Aid and CPR Level CPR + AED
- Police Information Check; including Vulnerable Sector Check within the last 3 months
- Children Services Intervention Record Check within the last 3 months
- Suicide Prevention
- Medication Administration
- NVCI
- Food Safety
- Mental Health First Aid
- Valid Driver License

- Strong interpersonal skills that bridge the distance with individuals that may have a resistance to relationships, different morals/values and alternative lifestyle choices
- Non-judgmental
- Strong personal boundaries
- Demonstrates good writing and communication skills
- Experience in working with diverse cultural communities
- Understanding of Client-Centered Theory, the Circle of Courage model and Trauma Informed philosophies
- Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous culture, beliefs, and traditions
