Overview
The Western Hog Exchange is a non-profit organization held by hog producer shareholders and directors. We operate all our services on a self-funded basis with no assistance from any other sources. Our objective is to provide the best service possible using a break-even strategy and to leverage our many years of experience to provide better financial returns to producers. Services we provide are: Forward contracting, Settling of hogs, Analyzing data and in-transit hog insurance.
The Western Hog Exchange is in the process of starting up a new venture in Red Deer. To add to the existing services we provide, we are also looking to supply members with better priced products, already used by many member producers.
This is a service not yet in place and will need to be built from the start.
Duties
- Approach members to assess what products we should target.
- Coordinate with vendors to source quality materials and components, negotiating favorable pricing and terms to maximize value.
- Oversee purchasing activities, ensuring alignment with member usage and inventory requirements.
- Maintain strong vendor management relationships, evaluating supplier performance and identifying opportunities for cost savings or process improvements.
- Strong understanding of procurement processes, including sourcing, purchasing, vendor management, and negotiation skills.
- Excellent communication skills to coordinate effectively with vendors, members, and stakeholders.
- Ability to analyze data related to pricing trends, supplier performance, and procurement metrics for informed decision-making.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Farm experience, ideally with hog farming or surrounding companies.
- Self motivated and able to work independently

Pay: $70,000.00-$90,000.00 per year
