Make your mark while you grow your career! We are seeking a well-rounded Pipeline Geohazard Specialist to join our Asset Integrity Team.
In this role, you will be a key player supporting Canadian Natural’s full-scale Pipeline Geohazard Management Program throughout Western Canada. You will have the opportunity to work on a variety of technical hydrotechnical and geotechnical projects, to develop your skills and to work closely with our highly experienced Asset Integrity, Production and Operation Engineering groups.

Key Accountabilities:
Supported planning, execution, and continuous improvement of the Pipeline Geohazard Management Program, maintaining an inventory of hydrotechnical and geotechnical hazard sites through inspections, investigations, monitoring, maintenance, and mitigation activities
Performed risk-based pipeline geohazard assessments and developed site-specific risk management plans, providing recommendations for inspections, monitoring strategies, and mitigation measures
Collaborated with Asset Integrity, Production, and Operations teams to establish integrity budgets, prioritize geohazard projects, and manage associated costs, schedules, and resources
Evaluated geohazard inspection, monitoring, and consultant assessment results, including in-line inspection (ILI) IMU bending strain data, to assess ground movement impacts, pipeline integrity, fitness-for-service, and re-inspection requirements
Conducted engineering assessments for emerging geotechnical and hydrotechnical threats, regulatory audits, routine pipeline evaluations, and integrity management initiatives
Managed flood and precipitation monitoring programs and provided technical support during geohazard incidents, while supporting pipeline route selection and construction projects through geohazard assessments, geotechnical investigations, HDD design reviews, and field-based mitigation and remediation activities
What You Bring to the Role:
- Bachelor’s degree in Geosciences or Engineering (M.Sc. with a geohazard focus preferred), with APEGA registration or eligibility for registration; EGBC and APEGS registration considered an asset
- Over 4 years of geohazard management experience focused on pipeline slope and watercourse-crossing assessments, inspections, monitoring, and mitigation within the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin (WCSB)
- Strong field expertise in pipeline geohazard assessments, including geomorphology, geology, terrain mapping, landform interpretation, and geotechnical hazard evaluation
- Proficient in geohazard assessment technologies and data interpretation, including LiDAR, InSAR, DEMs, landslide susceptibility models, satellite imagery, aerial photography, mapping software, and pipeline ILI IMU bending strain data analysis
- Demonstrated ability to translate complex geohazard findings into actionable recommendations, supported by strong analytical, project management, communication, technical report writing, and multidisciplinary collaboration skills
