Job Title: Travel Operations, Buyer & Merchandiser Specialist (Bilingual: Cantonese/Mandarin)
Company: Gogo Tours
Location: Richmond Hill, ON
About Gogo Tours
Gogo Tours is a premier luxury travel operator catering to the Chinese-Canadian community. We specialize in designing sophisticated, high-end itineraries to the world's most iconic destinations, including Africa, Europe, Asia, and South America.
Key Responsibilities
1. Vendor Negotiation & Contracting
- Hotel & Land Procurement: Negotiate competitive rates and contract terms with hotels, transport companies, and local land suppliers across North America and Asia.
- Relationship Management: Act as the primary bilingual liaison (Cantonese/Mandarin) for Chinese-speaking vendors to ensure service standards meet Gogo Tours' requirements.
- Contract Auditing: Review supplier contracts for "fine print" regarding cancellation policies, attrition rates, and complimentary room ratios.
2. Hotel, Restaurant & Experience Sourcing
- Property & Venue Scouting: Source and vet hotels and restaurants that match Gogo Tours' luxury standard, from iconic five-star properties to hidden-gem local favorites.
- Experience Design: Curate signature moments — private dinners, exclusive tastings, cultural excursions, and unique access — that turn a standard itinerary into an unforgettable journey for our travelers.
- Quality Assurance: Evaluate new hotel and restaurant partners on-site or through trusted local networks to ensure every recommendation lives up to the Gogo Tours name.
- Trend Scouting: Stay ahead of emerging destinations, boutique properties, and dining experiences that give our itineraries a competitive edge.
3. Merchandising & Product Lifecycle
As the tour "merchandiser," you will act as the product owner for your assigned destinations, responsible for:
- Market & Seasonality Analysis: Track destination demand cycles and identify which regions are "in season," pricing favorably, or trending with our traveler demographic.
- Package Bundling & Assortment Planning: Combine flights, hotel rooms, and land experiences into compelling, margin-conscious packages — deciding which itineraries to feature, promote, or retire based on demand.
- Pricing Strategy: Set and adjust package pricing throughout the sales cycle (early-bird, peak-season, last-minute) to balance sell-through with margin.
- Full Lifecycle Ownership: Own a tour product from initial concept and costing through launch, live sales monitoring, and post-tour review — adjusting inventory or pricing as demand data comes in.
- Competitive Positioning: Benchmark package pricing and inclusions against competing tour operators to keep Gogo Tours offerings distinct and attractively priced.
4. Inventory & Yield Management
- Tour Inventory Control: Real-time monitoring of tour "load factors." You will track how many seats are sold versus how many are held in our blocks.
- Release Date Management: Proactively "release" unsold hotel rooms or bus seats back to vendors before penalty dates to protect the company from financial loss.
- Waitlist Management: Coordinate with sales to clear waitlists by negotiating additional capacity with suppliers when tours sell out.
5. Technical Operations & Fulfillment
- Ticketing & Vouchers: Generate and distribute "Land Vouchers" and service orders to suppliers.
- Manifest Reconciliation: Cross-check traveler names, rooming lists, and dietary requirements against supplier confirmations with 100% accuracy.
- Costing & Invoicing: Verify that the final "Land" invoice from the supplier matches the negotiated contract price before passing it to accounting.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bilingual Proficiency: Professional-level fluency in Cantonese and Mandarin (written and verbal) is required for vendor negotiations.
- Logistics or Purchasing Experience: 2+ years in a role involving inventory management, supply chain, procurement, or merchandising (Travel industry experience is a major asset but not a requirement).
- Commercial Instinct: Comfortable reading market trends and demand data to make pricing and bundling decisions that drive sales.
- An Eye for Experience: A genuine passion for hospitality and travel, with the instinct to spot what makes a hotel, restaurant, or excursion truly memorable.
- The "Negotiator" Mindset: Comfortable picking up the phone to push for better rates or resolve service disputes with vendors.
- Deadline Driven: Ability to thrive in a "Ticketing Time Limit" environment where missing a cutoff means losing inventory.
