The Unit Clerk – Surgical Suite is part of a multi-disciplinary team that provides support for a fast paced, high acuity 12 theater Operating Room. They maintain a high traffic control desk, take emergency bookings, and answer telephones and intercoms. They are required to perform a variety of detailed clerical and computer tasks including preparing and maintaining OR slates using the VAX program. Unit Clerks assist with OR staff replacement as necessary. Critical thinking and the ability to prioritize multiple competing tasks is essential. The Unit Clerk is often the first point of contact for the OR so strong interpersonal skills are required. Given the high acuity of our patients and the fast paced nature of our environment, effective communication and organizational skills are essential. Record keeping standards are to maintain neatness and accuracy.
As a Unit Clerk, you will be responsible for the efficient flow of communication between health professionals, departments, patients and families while maintaining confidentiality of patient information. You will also be responsible for a variety of administrative tasks which may include reception, greeting and directing visitors, patients and health professionals, maintaining patient records and charts, transcribing and processing physician orders as well as scheduling patient tests and/or treatments. You will also be responsible for performing a range of administrative activities in support of the unit.

Additional Required Qualifications:
Practicum component from a recognized post-secondary institution is required. The successful completion of a recognized course in medical terminology is necessary. Exceptional communication and organizational skills are essential. Microsoft Office skills are required.
Unit Clerk experience in a high acuity setting is preferred. Relevant experience will also be considered. E-people training, VAX experience, and Payroll experience are an asset.
