Located in Balfour, British Columbia, Western Pacific Marine has been providing Ferry Services for the Province of British Columbia since 2004. We are proud to offer this free ferry service located on the West Arm of Kootenay Lake, surrounded by the beautiful Selkirk mountains where we are centrally located between Vancouver, British Columbia and Calgary, Alberta. Outdoor enthusiasts enjoy world class skiing and awesome powder just minutes away in our winter months and in spring and summer enjoy, golf, hiking, mountain biking and an abundance of water activities.

We are currently recruiting a Chief Engineer to join the crew aboard the MV Osprey 2000 on the Kootenay Lake Ferry route between Balfour and Kootenay Bay, British Columbia. Candidates holding a Transport Canada Third Class Motor Engineer Certificate of Competency (or higher) are encouraged to apply, as the successful candidate will be appointed as Chief Engineer in accordance with vessel certification and regulatory requirements.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of all engineering systems aboard a passenger ferry, including mechanical, electrical, and control systems.
Qualifications:
- Transport Canada Third Class Motor Engineer Certificate of Competency (or higher) issued under the Marine Personnel Regulations
- Valid Transport Canada Marine Medical Certificate
- Valid STCW Basic Safety Training / Marine Emergency Duties (MED) certification applicable to the role
- Eligibility to work in Canada
- Strong knowledge of marine engineering operations, safety management systems, and regulatory compliance
- Ability to manage engineering watchkeeping, maintenance planning, and vessel reliability in a passenger ferry environment
- Excellent problem-solving skills with a strategic approach to technical challenges.
- Willingness to relocate to the Kootenay Lake region is preferred
Assets/ Preferred (Not required)
- Experience with hybrid or diesel-electric propulsion systems
- Familiarity with marine high voltage systems and/or completion of High Voltage Safety Training
- Experience with marine Power Management Systems (PMS), load sharing, and integrated automation systems
- Familiarity with azimuth thrusters or Z-drive propulsion systems
- Experience with marine electrical systems, PLCs, and control system diagnostics
- Previous experience as Senior Engineer or 3rd Engineer on passenger ferries or commercial vessels
