Yucwmenlúcwu (Caretakers of the Land) LLP is a full-service Heritage, Environmental, and Forestry resource management company based in Enderby, BC. Current Opportunity: We’re hiring an Environmental Technician to support the Environment Department throughout the summer and fall season. This role provides hands-on experience in a variety of fish, wildlife, and environmental projects across Splatsin’s Area of Caretaker Responsibility. The position is ideal for someone interested in environmental science, natural resource management, or Indigenous land stewardship who enjoys working both in the field and in a team-oriented setting.
Responsibilities:
- Organizing technical data
- Installing and maintaining data collection instrumentation
- Tracking hours worked and expenses as required
- Preparing and maintaining necessary reports and records with oversight from environment manager
- Conducting or assisting in environment and archaeology field assessments & studies
- Monitoring construction works to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and best management practices
- Assist with measuring field attributes, properties, and composition of natural systems and environmental characteristics.
Minimum Qualifications
- Experience using MS Office software (Word, Excel, Access, OneNote) is an asset
- Experience using GPS, iPad, and other field data collection tools is an asset
- Experience navigating forest service roads and the communications therein is an asset
- Previous experience working on fish and/or wildlife projects, with preference for environmental monitoring experience
- Experience working in and around rivers, including navigating uneven and water-based terrain is an asset.
- Demonstrated interest in outdoor activities (e.g., fishing, hunting, hiking) and comfort working in remote locations with potential hazards such as wildlife encounters and adverse weather conditions
- Physically fit and capable of hiking long distances (5+ km/day) and lifting/moving equipment up to 20 kg
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License, or reliable transportation to work
- Current First Aid Certification, or willingness to obtain
- Swiftwater Rescue Certification, or willingness to obtain
- Knowledge and/or experience working with a First Nations organization is an asset
- Previous experience as in environment or archaeological field assessments.
