SALARY: $20.36- $23.24 per hour **based on work experience**
HOURS: Part-Time Casual (Weekends)

About the role: This Enhanced Supportive Housing Program is a 34-bed program for men who were long term shelter users. The program provides semi-independent accommodation and support to men, ages 18 and up. The John Howard Society of Ottawa will manage the site with support from Ottawa Inner City Health, The Royal Ottawa Health Group and Acquired Brain Injury care stream of the Ottawa Hospital. By applying Housing First Principles, Rita Thompson Enhanced Supportive Housing provides male adults, regardless of their complexities and challenges, an opportunity to access safe accommodations and utilize intensive on-site supports to assist with their life goals. This program strives to contribute to a reduction in the number of individuals using homeless shelters or living on the street.
Criminal Reference check required
University Degree/College Diploma in a Social Services program OR working towards completion of one
Experience working with homeless population
Experience in housing/residential setting
Experience working in a Harm Reduction environment
Experiences working as part of an Interdisciplinary team
As the successful candidate, you have:
Have a demonstrated ability to work within timelines and deadlines
Possess strong time management and organizational skill.
Have an ability to effectively deal with neighbor or community complaints after hours if require
Have excellent people skills to facilitate relationships with clients, colleagues, supervisors, and community member.
Have a genuine interest in working with adults in a caring and empathic manner
Be thorough in building maintenance, upkeep and cleaning duties as required
Be willing to work weekends
Be flexible and available to take extra shifts when required
Knowledge and Skills
Competency engaging and establishing rapport with clients experiencing mental health and substance use issues.
Competency using crisis management skills if required
Knowledge of relevant legislation (Residential Tenancies Act and Mental Health Act) as well as clear understanding of operating within agency policies and procedures
Basic counselling skills to support interactions, and possible case plan tasks with adult men as directed by counselling team.
Strong organizational skills to support completion of various maintenance, cleaning and other administrative tasks while on shift.
Competency in written skills to support log entries, report summaries
