We are looking for a part time production worker to strengthen our team. The ideal candidate can work 2 to 3 days, with a mix of weekdays and the weekends. Production work means early morning starts, at 6:30am or 7:30am. The production worker works independently on their tasks while working in team at the store.
Our South Granville location, the newest of the 3, houses our production area. There we make fresh dough every day, as well as batter, custards, fillings, glazes and more.
The Production Worker role is an integral part of our kitchen team. Besides working on their core duties, the Production Worker performs other general kitchen team duties.
The Role
The Production Worker is a very important member of the Nero Team. This role is responsible for the accurate production of all doughs and batters for all Nero locations as well as for properly preparing other prepped items such as custards, sauces, fillings and glazes. It is critical that the person in this role is creating the recipes accurately, to a high quality and in the right quantity. Because this role is responsible for creating our critical waffle ingredients with a short shelf life, there can often be a variation in the demands of production. The successful Production Worker is able to plan and manage these fluctuations in demand with calm and diligence. The Production Worker is a key team member of the entire Nero Team but in particular with the BOH Team and actively supports a positive team dynamic, offering support when needed
Specific Responsibilities:
PRODUCTION KITCHEN MANAGEMENT
- Responsible for the accurate production of dough, batter and prep items such as glazes, sauces, fillings, custards and more for all Nero locations while minimizing waste.
- Understands and follows established par levels.
- Records ‘low on’s’ for Production-specific ingredients.
- Along with other BOH Team members, assists with correctly receiving deliveries. Ensures quality and quantity of goods are as expected.
- Helps ensure the storage of all food and beverage items follow the FIFO system, as per Nero rotation and fridge management procedures.
- Adheres to Nero’s Food Safety and Sanitation plans. Ensures safety plans are accurate andupdates when necessary.
- Keeps the production spaces and equipment in their workspace clean. Advises Kitchen Manager of anything in need of repair or replacement.
UPHOLDING EXCELLENCE IN FOOD AND BEVERAGE STANDARDS
- Much of the production is done at a guest-facing bench in our open kitchen area. The ProductionWorker is present and hospitable with the guest at all times and particularly while working in this area.
- Ensures doughs, batters and prepped foods are prepared consistently to the highest standard as specified at Nero’s direction.
- Ensures Robson St. location receives their order accurately and on time.
- Routinely evaluates the quality of all prepped items from production-to-plate while on shift. Pro-actively reports feedback to Kitchen Manager in a timely manner.
- Follows standardized recipes, prep lists and techniques for food preparation and presentation to ensure consistency and to minimize waste.
- In coordination with Kitchen Manager, ensures guest menus, recipes and syllabi are kept updated and accurate. Provides input to the creation of new menu items.
- Pro-actively participates in any team meetings.
- Responsible for pre-open duties for the entire restaurant.

- Exemplifies and upholds Company Policies and Procedures, WCB Health and Safety regulations and BC Employment Standards at all times. This includes upholding and enforcing Nero’s policy of zero-tolerance for bullying and harassment between any employees and those who work with Nero. Maintains employee confidentiality at all times.
- Leads by example by ensuring a safe working environment on the part of all employees in areas of responsibility.
TEAM WORK AND COMMUNICATION
- Sets a tone of accountability, mutual respect and approachability throughout the entireRestaurant, including with FOH/BOH teams, maintenance crews, suppliers, contractors and other members of the Team.
- Although this role works independently, the Production Worker is a supportive and helpful member of the BOH Team with regard to sharing space, ingredients, equipment, communication and responsibility.
- Regularly checks both Robson and Seymour Restaurant Messenger groups for any messages with relevant information for the Production Team. Ensures messaging by the Team Leaders is accurate.
- Because Production shifts begin early, the Production Worker often opens the restaurant in the morning and is therefore responsible for pre-open duties as required.
- Ensures that all employees adhere to the policies and procedures outlined in the Nero Procedures and Policies.

Skills Required
- Very good verbal, reading and writing skills (English).
- Able to follow verbal and written instructions as laid out in process manuals.
- Ability to determine and produce required production levels for each shift worked while incorporation fluctuations in demand.
Credentials and/or Experience Requirements
- Food Safe Level 1.
- Minimum 2 year experience in Hospitality or the Food and Beverage industry.
- Minimum 1 year experience in a production related role, baking role or pastry role.
- Minimum of a post-secondary diploma or certificate.
- Ability to lift 25kg.
