The primary responsibility of a line cook at ORIGINAL JOE’S is to ensure that guests food orders are promptly and properly prepared at all times. Line cooks are responsible to ensure that all menu items are prepared according to our standards and in keeping with the customer’s wishes. Speed, accuracy and cleanliness are requirements in this position.
As a prerequisite for the duties involved in this area, there is a requirement that Line Cooks be energetic, capable of handling a variety of tasks simultaneously, and able to work alongside others in a team environment. A working knowledge of food handling and preparation must be present before Line Cooks are considered fully competent. An ability to work under pressure, to anticipate flow resulting from customer traffic patterns and to co-operate with the service team is mandatory.
Line Cooks will also be required to perform side work, read the output from computer printers, and be able to work with foods according to their individual handling requirements. Knowledge of equipment care and proper operation of same is required in this position. Safety around high temperature equipment and proper use of sharp knives and other hazardous equipment is also a requirement of all Line Cooks. There is a high degree of physical fitness required to handle being on one’s feet for extended periods, continuous lifting and bending over, all within the high operating temperatures of a kitchen.
