Position Summary
To produce complex Hardware Application designs, book wirings, and equipment designs that meet requirements using established engineering processes and railway signalling principles.
The Technical Specialist acts as a subject matter expert, leading technical decision-making and providing direction across multiple projects while resolving complex engineering challenges.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership
- Act as a subject matter expert and provide technical direction across projects
- Lead technical decision-making and resolve complex design challenges
- Develop hardware application designs and equipment layouts
- Interpret and write requirements ensuring traceability from high-level to detailed design
- Prepare technical design specifications, Scope of Work (SoW), and RFQs
- Apply knowledge of railway infrastructure for trackside and equipment room deployments
- Ensure compliance with CENELEC and AREMA standards
- Utilize CAD tools (Microstation, AutoCAD) for design development
- Select appropriate design approaches and leverage existing product designs
Project Management
- Perform Work Package Manager responsibilities when required
- Plan timelines and track budgets to ensure project delivery
- Monitor progress of assigned tasks within the SID team
- Ensure deliverables are completed on time, within scope, and budget
- Generate accurate effort estimates
- Follow client’s work instructions and Chorus processes
Required Qualifications:
- Degree or diploma in Electrical/Electronic Engineering
- 10–12 years of experience in hardware application design
- Hands-on experience with MicroStation or AutoCAD
- Strong understanding of railway signalling systems and infrastructure (preferred)
- Experience preparing technical design specifications, SoWs, and RFQs
- Familiarity with:
- SAP (Bills of Materials)
- Configuration Management
- Change Control systems (e.g., ClearQuest)
- Strong communication and documentation skills
Mandatory Requirement:
- Valid Engineering License in Québec (OIQ) — required for Montreal project
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working on railway projects
- Knowledge of CENELEC and AREMA standards
- Ability to mentor junior team members
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
