CNC / Structural Steel Processing Operator
Location: Sarnia, Ontario
ProMart Industrial is growing, and we are looking for experienced CNC / Structural Steel Processing Operators to join our fabrication team.
Our shop is equipped with some of the most advanced structural steel processing equipment in the industry, including a PythonX beamline, multiple FICEP CNC machines, multiple CNC plasma plate beds, and a Voortman V320 plate processing system.
With a strong backlog of work extending into 2028, this is an opportunity to work with leading technology while helping fabricate steel for major industrial, nuclear, mining, defence, and infrastructure projects across Canada.
We are looking for operators who understand that precision matters. Every hole, cut, cope, bevel, and processed component has to be right. The work coming through these machines sets the pace for the entire shop, and we need dependable people who take ownership of quality, production, and equipment performance.
Responsibilities
- Set up and operate CNC structural steel processing equipment
- Operate equipment such as the PythonX beamline, FICEP CNC machinery, CNC plasma plate beds, and Voortman V320
- Load and unload beams, columns, channels, angles, plate, and other structural steel materials
- Read and interpret shop drawings, production drawings, work orders, cut lists, and material specifications
- Verify material type, grade, thickness, dimensions, and identification before processing
- Review CNC programs and confirm machine settings before beginning production
- Process structural steel through cutting, drilling, coping, notching, marking, scribing, and plate processing operations
- Measure and inspect completed components to confirm they meet drawing tolerances and quality requirements
- Identify machine, programming, material, and production issues before they affect downstream fabrication
- Perform routine equipment inspections, cleaning, and basic preventative maintenance
- Monitor consumables, tooling, and machine performance throughout the shift
- Accurately track completed work, material usage, scrap, and production progress
- Use overhead cranes and material handling equipment when trained and authorized
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
- Work closely with supervisors, lead hands, fitters, welders, quality personnel, and material handlers to keep production moving
- Follow all ProMart safety, quality, and operating procedures
What We Are Looking For
- Previous experience operating CNC equipment in a structural steel or metal fabrication environment
- Experience with PythonX, FICEP, Voortman, plasma plate processing equipment, or similar machinery is a strong asset
- The ability to read and understand structural steel drawings, dimensions, material callouts, and work orders
- Strong mechanical aptitude and comfort working with computer controlled equipment
- Experience using measuring tools to verify dimensions and tolerances
- A strong understanding of quality and the importance of producing accurate parts the first time
- The ability to recognize problems, troubleshoot basic operating issues, and ask questions when something does not look right
- Dependable attendance and punctuality
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work as part of a production team
- The ability to work safely and efficiently in a busy fabrication environment
- Forklift and overhead crane experience is an asset
