Expected Salary Range: $104097 - $146959 Annually
Target Variable Performance Pay: 8%

The final salary offered will be determined based on a holistic assessment of the candidate’s experience, education, training, and alignment with the role’s requirements. For positions covered by a collective agreement, placement within the range will follow the applicable step or classification.
Reporting to the Manager, Engineering, the Engineer provides a wide range of engineering support services that will ensure technical soundness, reliability, safety and cost effectiveness of the utility and its Electrical Distribution Power System. The Engineer will lead/support grid innovation projects from concept development, pilot delivery, and integration – for new capacity tools that support investment planning and grid operation needs. This involves being responsible for engaging with customers/partners, distribution planning analysis, and business case development throughout the project lifecycle. The successful incumbent will require a strong understanding of electricity distribution systems, understanding of regulated business cases, ability to problem solve with customer needs, and a strong understanding of emerging technologies like EVs, building heating, battery energy storage, among other energy management solutions.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Evaluate various emerging technologies and identify opportunities to develop solutions/programs that support planning and operation tools as customers and the electricity system modernize.
- Perform distribution system planning analysis to assess emerging technology benefits leading to increased system capacity, performance, and reliability.
- Develop new datasets to analyze and uncover new opportunities for emerging technologies
- Engage with customers to uncover collaboration opportunities that lead to technology implementation where both customers and the utility benefit.
- Secure project funding by developing positive business cases and execute on pilot project delivery
- Stay abreast of trends and technical innovations that result in potential business development opportunities
- Undertakes special investigation and studies, and prepares reports with recommendations
- Responsible for the timely, technically accurate and cost-effective application of engineering practices
- Compares alternatives based on cost/benefit considerations, customer needs, safety, statistical analysis and engineering principles, and recommends the optimum solution
- Manage relationships with inter-organizational business units and external customers as required
- May be called upon to act as a team or project leader
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical or Mechanical preferred)
- Registered Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario
- 5+ years of professional experience in supporting Engineering or System Planning, with data analytics (including scenario‑based forecasting) for energy or utility networks
- Masters in Business Administration or other business related training/experience preferred.
- Technical experience with emerging technologies such as EVs, battery energy storage, or other distributed energy resource technologies is an asset.
- Experience with advanced analytics on large, complex datasets, including data linkage, processing, and preparation to support predictive modeling and forecasting
- Experience using Python for data analysis, automation, and predictive modeling, with supporting experience in database manipulation and data integration using SQL or similar tools, is considered an asset
- Entrepreneurial mindset with demonstrated ability to navigate detailed technical issues and positive business outcomes is an asset.
- Experience within the electrical utility industry, electrical/technical consulting industry, is considered an asset
- Electrical distribution system planning and/or design experience is preferred
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Effective skills in project management operations, budgeting, business process and productivity improvements
- Self-motivated, operates with a high degree of independence and can visualize possibilities and opportunities
- Aptitude and experience in adapting to, managing and facilitating change, willing to challenge the status quo
- Proven effective problem-solving and analytical ability

This position is based in a hybrid environment allowing for remote work two days per week, based on business needs. Employees will be required to come onsite Tuesday to Thursday. You are expected to live in Ontario and within reasonable commuting distance of the office.
