Full job description

The Advisor, Laboratory supports the accreditation of medical facilities across Alberta by conducting comprehensive assessments in accordance with CPSA policies, procedures, and applicable Accreditation Standards. This role is responsible for coordinating and carrying out all phases of the accreditation process, including pre-assessment planning, on-site assessments, and post-assessment follow-up activities to ensure compliance with established standards and promote continuous quality improvement.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Arrange and conduct on-site assessments of designated medical facilities and write assessment reports identifying evidence of best practices, recommendations for improvement and follow-up actions required to address non-conformance.
- Assess the performance of medical facilities (Laboratory and Neurodiagnostic) for the purpose of granting accreditation.
- Review facility’s scope of practice and organize and evaluate facility documentation relating to desk audit.
- Prepare initial assessment reports including; requirements for evidence of compliance from the evaluation of desk audit submission; and on-site assessment.
- Recruitment and training of additional external assessors, as required.
- Review and follow-up on facility response submissions in relation to assessment reports;
  - Prepare assessment reports for Program Manager review and distribution to facilities.
  - Identify and inform Program Manager and report on any safety, quality or risk issues observed during accreditation assessments.
  - Upon completion of the initial assessment, follow-up and coordinate to ensure the facility addresses any noted compliance issues.
Provide education and share best practices for the purposes of quality and safety improvement.
Initiate and track all activities/steps related to the planning, logistics, initiation, document/information requests, execution, and completion of annual diagnostic facility accreditation assessments.
Liaise with accredited facility Medical Directors, identified accreditation facility staff, and potential additional ad-hoc assessors to provide information and instruction on facility accreditation on-site planning, requirements and expectations.
- Work with the appropriate Accreditation Assistant regarding accreditation assessment activities. Support other Accreditation programs, advisors and assessors as required.
Ensure applicable facility accreditation assessment tracking systems are current, accurate and reliable; and assist with maintenance of facility profiles, contact lists, and information as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Minimum Qualifications:
- Diploma program in Medical Laboratory Technology or related field, in which administrative skills would typically be obtained
- Currently or eligible to be registered as MLT with College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Alberta (CMLTA)
- 3 years of related experience in an urban and/or rural laboratory or diagnostic facility
- Valid driver’s license and meet vehicular insurance requirements

Preferred Qualifications and Experience:
- Previous experience in conducting internal audits and/or risk management processes
- Knowledge of Quality Management Systems
- Lead role experience in the performance of quality control, quality assurance
- Previous experience as an accreditation assessor or organizing/planning for an accreditation assessment

SALARY
The annual salary for this position is $97,562 and includes a comprehensive benefits package and pension plan.
