Reporting Relationship
The Staff Trainer will report directly to the Director of Health and Wellness Department and will ensure that internal working relationships are developed with all Departments within M’Chigeeng First Nation.
Position Summary
The Staff Trainer is responsible for developing, coordinating, and delivering training programs that support the capacity and professional development of employees within the Health and Wellness Department.
The Staff Trainer serves as a departmental training resource, develops annual training plans and associated budgets, and monitors training outcomes to ensure alignment with departmental goals and community needs.
Essential Functions
- Ensure all M’Chigeeng First Nation protocols and Bylaws are adhered to, and program activities are conducted in accordance with recommendations and policies as set by Chief & Council.
- Incorporate and promote Anishnabek cultural values, beliefs and practices and Anishinabemowin into program and training delivery.
- Foster a positive, collaborative, and culturally safe team environment.
- Design, develop, and deliver training programs for all service areas within the Health and Wellness Department.
- Participate in external training opportunities and function as a “train-the-trainer” to bring new curriculum and certifications into the department.
- Adapt training content to ensure cultural relevance, accessibility, and alignment with the Health and Wellness department.
- Facilitate both in-person and virtual training sessions, workshops, and orientations.
- Collaborate with Health and Wellness management staff to identify annual training needs and priorities.
- Develop and present annual training plans that align with departmental strategic goals.
- Coordinate training schedules, venues, registration, and communications.
- Maintain organized training records, attendance data, and certification tracking.
- Develop annual training budgets in collaboration with management and teams.
- Monitor approved training expenditures to ensure alignment with allocated budgets.
- Prepare quarterly written reports for the Director of Health and Wellness summarizing training activities, outcomes, and recommendations.
- Identify funding opportunities, grants, or cost‑sharing options to enhance training capacity.
- Work closely with all service teams within the department to support continuous improvement and skill development.
- Consult with external training providers, partners, and agencies to bring relevant programming to the community.
- Support Managers and Supervisors in ensuring staff maintain required certifications (e.g., CPR/First Aid, mental health training, regulatory requirements).
- Maintain secure and accurate training files, digital resources, and documentation.
- Ensure compliance with organizational policies, professional standards, and funding agreements.
- Assist with onboarding and orientation programming for new staff.
- Contribute to strategic planning and workforce development initiatives.
- Ensure culturally appropriate approaches are embedded in all aspects of training curriculum and delivery.
- Maintain accurate program-level records, statistics, and training reports for the Health and Wellness Department.
- Prepare quarterly summaries on training delivery, trends, and program concerns.
- Assist with budget oversight, resource allocation, and identification of training needs.
- Participate in community events, workshops, and prevention initiatives.
- Practice strict confidentiality, privacy, ethical and non-bias approaches.
- Identify appropriate internal and external resources to meet the training needs for the Health and Wellness Department in the provision of services to children, youth and families.
- Monitor training program effectiveness and make recommendations for improvements to the Director of Health and Wellness.
- Serves as a Community Role Model while at work and away from the office.
- Ensure confidentiality of required records and documentation.
- Ensure the completion of attendance records, leave requests and travel claims based on policy.
- In collaboration with the Director of Health and Wellness seek additional training funding and complete proposal and grant submissions for program training initiatives.
- Review, prepare and identify current and future annual budget requirements for annual training plans for program sustainability.
- Manage and monitor annual program budgets in consultation with the Director of Health and Wellness and department Managers and Supervisors.
- Ensures training statistics and reporting is maintained and quarterly service narrative progress reports are prepared and presented to the Director of Health and Wellness.
- Review financial reports from Finance and ensure spending for training plans are in accordance with the approved budgets, identifying a plan to address surplus and deficits.
- Maintain program documentation and statistics of activities on a monthly and quarterly basis for reporting and annual evaluations.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Health Professional who is registered, eligible, or willing to be registered with the College of Psychotherapists.
- Degree (preferred) or diploma (minimal) in Education, Human Resources, Social Services, Health, or a related field.
- Experience in training delivery, adult education, or curriculum development.
- Experience working in First Nation communities or Indigenous health/wellness settings is an asset.
- Strong knowledge of training methods, adult learning styles, and facilitation strategies.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
- Cultural awareness and understanding of Anishinaabe values, traditions, and community priorities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and digital training tools.
- Must be available for occasional evening or weekend training sessions.
- Some travel may be required for professional development or partnership meetings.
- Knowledge of Indigenous family systems, culture, community values, and intergenerational impacts of colonization.
- Understanding of child welfare legislation, prevention frameworks, and family-centered practice.
- Strong communication, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills.
- Registered members in good standing with recognized educational institutions or professional organizations such as; CRPO, OCSWSSW, CPBAO, CPSO, CNO or COTO, is considered an asset.

- Valid Class “G” Driver’s License with personal and reliable transportation.
- Knowledge of First Nation issues, culture, traditions, customs and practices.
- Fluency in Anishinabemowin or a willingness to learn.
- Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSS) required (Current 30 days, original or certified copy) upon successful selection for the position.
CRC/VSS Rationale: M’Chigeeng First Nation and its agents are in a position of trust in services to band member children and/or vulnerable adults, so a safe and secure working environment is mandatory. Applicants must provide a clear VSS Certificate, and the CRC must have a record clear and/or dated of any convictions relating to alcohol, drugs, assault, violence and theft. The CRC and VSS must be current (30 days) and must be an Original.
