Raise is currently hiring a Geotechnical Engineer on behalf of our client. They’re expanding their team to meet growing needs, making this a unique opportunity to work with an industry leader. Our Client, is one of the largest electrical energy suppliers in Canada
Note: The primary pay rate is based on the rate for an incorporated contractor who owns their own business. However, we will also consider applications from candidates interested in a T4 arrangement, where applicable.
Description
The Senior Geotechnical Engineer/Geoscientist in this role will be a seasoned professional who applies advanced engineering knowledge to provide innovative engineering, estimating, planning, and quality management services. You will oversee medium- to high-complexity projects and operations safely, ensuring they are delivered with quality, within budget, and on time. Acting as an Owner’s Engineer, you will manage engineering risk and champion safe, sustainable solutions for extensive linear infrastructure network.
Accountabilities

Develop safe, innovative engineering solutions by using independent initiative and judgment. Perform advanced designs, analyze and resolve highly technical or unusual design and field engineering problems, and interpret complex engineering specifications.

Meet safety, cost, quality, and time objectives. Propose strategic changes in plans and estimated costs, recommend payments for contractor work, prepare progress reports, and coordinate complex work schedules.

Participate actively in engineering community. Conduct independent studies, contribute to the development of technical standards, and provide technical guidance and advice to junior and intermediate engineering professionals.

Deliver exceptional customer service by establishing basic design criteria with internal and external clients, defining the scope of geoscience/engineering services, and approving all related technical documentation.

Make high-level decisions and recommendations of a complex technical nature, including establishing design bases, criteria, and concepts affecting the management of engineering resources.
Qualifications
-
10 years of experience in geotechnical engineering, engineering geology, or a relevant field.

Proven experience working as an Owner's Engineer, managing third-party consultants and contractors on behalf of an organization.

Demonstrated experience with linear infrastructure projects (e.g., highways, access roads, pipelines, or transmission corridors).

Expert-level skills in planning and executing comprehensive geotechnical site investigations

Deep technical mastery of soil and rock mechanics, geomorphological analysis, and advanced risk assessment.

Proven track record in landslide assessment and terrain stability assessment.

Advanced knowledge of seismic assessment, including soil liquefaction evaluation.

Experience in the design of shallow and deep foundations, alongside settlement assessment.

Fluency with GIS software, slope stability modeling programs, and standard industry design/analysis software.

Physical capability and willingness to regularly complete field work in varied terrain and weather conditions.

Nice-to-Have Skills & Experience

Design of retaining walls and shoring systems.

Ability to respond effectively to site emergencies and provide safety-focused work prescriptions under tight timelines.

Experience with flood assessment, groundwater modeling, and hydrological modeling.

Familiarity with ground improvement techniques.
-
Experience with trenchless design and construction methods.

Education and Certifications
-
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (typically Civil Engineering, Geological Engineering, Geoscience or Earth Sciences or Mining Engineering with a geotechnical specialization)
P.Eng and will be required to Provide Proof of Permit to Practice, registered with EGBC when hired

Every contractor must supply their own Windows 11 Laptop computer for the duration of the assignment.
Every contractor must supply their own “Smart Phone”. This is needed to gain access to the Organizations network.
